to combat shedding, how do you prevent the powder's residue from staying in your hair after you wash? i noted a few reviews where the garlic powder worked but left granules in the strands....sound like a nightmare...:perplexed

I've never used it, but I suspect, much like making white sauce with flour I would whisk it up into a smooth paste, with either shampoo or conditioner, whichever is your preference.

I tried it once mixed with oils it did nothing. AE Garlic treatment helped a lot so did black tea rinses

I have used it and tried to dissolve it prior to use. I didn't have any issue with residue. Maybe I'd you're worried you could use garlic oil.

I take garlic pills now to combat shedding. As a result I no longer mix it in unless I have missed a lot of days and my hair notices

I did this years ago and it was a nightmare getting those flakes out of my hair.

Never again.
:nono:

I did it today.
Just as I presumed, when whisked up with some coconut oil and conditioner of choice, it becomes a creamy consistency and the powder dissolves into the conditioner and oil completely.
So when it came to washing out, I had no issue whatsoever.

What I do take issue with is the fact that I now smell like a home cooked meal. I'm trying to shampoo less and cowash more, so I was saddened to find that even after 3 shampoo applications, I still couldn't get the stench of garlic out of my hair.

Will post a pic of the aftermath. lol

thanks for this :) hmm, rinsing with a perfume-y conditioner didn't help at all? i will probably DC for at least 30 min after rinsing it out so hopefully that will conquer the smell?

Residue is a problem I had as well so last week decided to create an oil infusion with it. I'll let it marinate until the end of October before using it. Theres a few other goodies in the bottle as well to head off the smell. In the mean time I'll use up my AE Garlic mask.

I purchased organic garlic powder from Mountainroseherbs.com last year (1 lb for $6.80). It is the most finely-sifted garlic powder I've ever used. It dissolves very easily in whatever I put it in; whether it's conditioner or a food recipe. And when using it in conditioner, there is no after-smell.

I quit buying AE garlic conditioner. Applying garlic powder in my conditioner is a more economical way to have it in my regimen.

I must say thought... I didn't notice a reduction in the shedding. So next time, I'll use a couple cloves of garlic instead, or crushed garlic paste mixed with conditioner, that should do the trick.

spellinto The conditioner made some difference to the smell but not enough. Woke up this morning smelling like Thai cooking lol so my boyfriend says. So today I'll mix some essential oils in a handful of my leave in and hope that does the trick. Will have to wear my hair down too to give it space to breathe and release the aroma.
I can't go to work Monday morning smelling like this. lol

hair4romheaven When you say tea, so you mean typical English Tea Bags? I hear talk of tea and coffee rinses, but I didn't know which tea people were referring to. Regular Tea, Green Tea, Earl Grey, Herbal....?

You buy empty tea bags & put your choice of herbs in there then seal the bag. Add hot water & allow it to seep. Pour or spray on scalp then put dc on hair.

they say it may take multiple tries before you see a reduction in shedding, especially if you shed very heavily. i have thick hair that sheds like nobody's business so i'm going to incorporate this maybe 1-2x a week and note any results. thank you so much for keeping us updated us, learning a lot from your experience!

oh, and im sorry to hear about the smell...how many teaspoons of GP did you use???
