Everyone in this thread have made excellent points. Warning -- I am experiencing this now - leaving it alone doesn't mean no detangling. I am combatting that now b/c I am leaving it alone (no combs, just washing, conditioning and leave-ins) and I desperately need to detangle before this stuff locs which is not what I am trying to do at this point in time.

Amen! Let's face it; chemicals slowly weakens our hair and so does heat!
