IF I ONLY HAD A PAIR OF CLIPPERS...

So I am going to let y'all know how much I hate my hair right now.
I am ....(check my ticker) post BC and I am not even APL yet.
I am less than 6 months from my 2 year nappiversay and by then MOST women are BSL..but me nooooo, not this girl.

At this point I don't think that i will ever have long flowing hair and my dream of BSL hair is going to be just that...a dream.
I see these beautiful heads of hair every day and instead of being motivated I get discouraged because I don't have progress like most of y'all. I barely do anything to my hair. I never use heat, I never wear it loose/out and still ...2.5 years of growing (counting 1 year of transitioning) and not even APL.

I am done..but I am still sad and upset that I put so much restraint on myself to leave my hair alone...and have noting to show for it.

Please feel free to join the pity party.

My last relaxer was 10/2007. I slowly cut my hair (lots of trims) during my transition. I had 1/2 inch of relaxed ends left on 10/2009 and trimmed them off. My hair is past apl. I use heat, and I wear my hair loose.

What are you doing to your hair? Maybe you should consider changing your hair care regimen. From looking at your avatar pic, it seems you have quite a bit of hair.

I understand what you mean. I've been working on growing my hair but due to a few setbacks, I haven't seen APL yet although I've made it to SL twice.

Maybe you should try something new like taking Biotin or incorporating a growth aid. Biotin gave me an extra inch in three weeks and it was awesome.

Hell, I'm 2.5 inches from APL and I can use every inch I can get...

Okay I just looked at your pics in your profile and I could strangle you.....

Your hair is so beautiful and thick. Even your texture is to die for. You're so close to APL. Stop thinking about it and get thee into a protective style so you're not obsessing over the length so much.

I wear sew ins or braids when I can't keep my fingers out of my hair.

**goes and dumps another bucket of MTG on head**

I have a lot of hair, in volume not length.
Your last relaxer was the same time as me, october 2007...
See I co-wash and bun 24/7 and i never do anything to my hair, never trimmed (my ends are fine) and still I am prolly 2" from APL.

I get about 5" a year...

I need to see what I can do different...i just don't know what that could be.

Girl, it doesn't get more protective than this..I bun ALL the time...the people I live with don't even know what my hair looks like.

I can understand what you're going through but i just want to say i wish i can get a bun that's as big as the one in your avatar picture. You really have to take into account how long ppl transitioned too. what's your reggie exactly?

Can you try another protective style like a weave, half wig, braids, etc.? Something where you don't have access to your hair.

Not everyone cares for weaves but it is the best way for ME to retain length.

I'm not in one now but I can't wait to get it installed again.

Do you KNOW how many times I've taken my bun down and redid it today?

Do you KNOW how many times I've taken the bun down and redid it while I typed this post? Yes I have a serious problem LOL

Thank you.
I transitioned for a whole year, i think that is pretty average.
My reggie is very simple. I pre poo and shampoo once a week followed by a DC (alternate between protein and deep con.). I co-was 3-5 times a week and keep it in a loose bun 24/7. I use conditioner to moisturize and coconut oil to seal. i sleep on a satin pillowcase.

LOL, i have combing problem...but my hair doesn't break.
My strands are so fine that I am scared to do an install or braid it. i'd love to but I am worried about breakage.

Perhaps a cute wig? Half wig?

You're so close to APL from your pics. Don't give up now! When you make it to APL (which will be soon) I'll have another hair inspiration to look up to.

It can be frustrating and sometimes you just need to vent. You have to relax though and know you can get there.

I thought I was doing everything right last year and I made it to APL only to go back to SL the next month.

I'm still not APL yet but I know I'll get there and you will too.

Thank you.

Since you mentioned that your strands are fine, you may benefit from co washing no more than once or twice a week. Finger combing the hair only while wet and with conditioner may be helpful. I would use conditioner only as a leave in and moisturizer. Less is more I think.

Your is is gorgeous and I love your bun in your avatar.

I feel the same way.

I know how you feel. I think it also has to do with how much thickness/volume your hair has. (Its taking me forever to get my hair in a bun cause its so thick)

Also, what is your height? I think I remember from another thread that you're a tall girl. I am also tall and I think it takes longer to get to the lengths that shorter girls achieve. You may want to measure your progress by inches rather than using the APL/BSL etc. markings. I'm sure you're making progress so try not to be so stressed about it.

This may sound cliche but it helped me in the early days:

be thankful for what you do have. When you realize that there are people who literally can't grow hair or can't keep it due to whatever life circumstance, you begin to be thankful for your hair even if you're not APL.

I haven't looked at your pics or seen your texture yet. But I'm glad you posted because we all go through hair anxiety and that's why we come here for support and conversation. Hang in there!

I no longer set time constraint type goals for myself. Instead I say: I hope I make it to my next goal length "one day"...but I'm not concerned about whether it's this year or next year because I never thought I would make it this far and I did! Who knew!

Keep up with your routine, if you hair is natural, consider that it may grow out and then down (that's what my hair did). Also remember that people would pay good money for thick healthy hair, and you have have that NOW. Be happy. It's a blessing and the rest will come in time.

I feel you girl! I've been natural for 6 years and I haven't reached APL. I've had extreme breakage that's caused me to only retain 2-3 inches a year :nono: I definitely know what it's like to look at your own hair, then come on here and see someone who BC'd after you be at BSL already. I actually had to take a LHCF hiatus because it had me depressed. I totally support pity parties! I have a long depressing pity party thread somewhere on here too.:look:

I found out at the beginning of the year that my breakage was do to split ends. I'm not sure what is causing them, but I think it was chronic lack of moisture. So I joined the baggy challenge and found out what real moisturized hair feels like. Now I'm cutting to free myself of splits.

How many inches does your hair grow a year and how many are you retaining?

You're right...i am 6 feet tall, so my APL is more like 5'5" person's BSL...I am aware that I am not very rational...but I just needed to vent. But it is a little frustrating when someone who BC'd at the same time as you are miles ahead.

Thank you, i need to be more realistic and less obsessed with measuring every damn day.

I believe I retain everything, I get about 5-6 inches a year..I am between 13-15 inches depending on where I measure.
