Kaddy, Kitchen tician and anyone who knows what the dagnabbit I should do, bring it in here!
Well ladies, I went to the beauty shop that has the same name as another beauty shop here in Memphis, resulting in me going to the other beauty shop with the SAME FRIGGIN name as the beauty shop I was SUPPOSED to go to yesterday...breath, stretch, stretch again, shake and let it go,Bubln.

Okay, well I went to the RIGHT one today. Here I am all excited because this lady was only gonna charge me 25.00 for highlights, excluding the style and guess what happened??? The female went straight loco on me. Now, I have contacted this girl since February about highlights, but why today did she have the nerve to think I was getting hair color ALL OVER!!!!!???? When she 'realized' (whatever) that I was getting highlights, the so-in-so was like, 'oh, highlights are going to be 15.00 more. I thought you just wanted hair color all over.' NO YOU DIDN'T, BIRDBATH!!!!!!!!

Well, I was so frustrated I just came on home and decided that I would do the darn thang myself, since I purchased the highlighting kit from Walmart and I already had the color I desired. Well ladies, I was a pulling and stretching my strands through the highlighting cap, taking my time, making sure each section of my hair was even. I used Kitchentician's idea for parting ear to ear, since I could not see the strands in the back. Well Kitchen, I didn't understand how much hair you highlighted in the front and how much you bantued, so I just used the cap. Well, after I washed out the color, I took off the cap, all excited cause the color came out PERFECTLY!! But when I added my other hair with the highlights:nono: Well, just look at the pics and help a sista out. I look like a friggin checkerboard:mad:

I don't think it looks bad but I'm not a color expert by any means- I love the color. I assume that you wanted to put more color in?

It doesnt look bad to me, but I wasnt happy with the way mine came out either. I put Sebastian's Colourshines in Neutral Brown over it and was quite pleased:grin:

i don't think it looks bad but i see what you're saying about it not being even.

i'd just do a darker rinse over it to balance it out.

Kristina- Yeah, I will be doing a 'corrective' color tomorrow, this time using the chunking technique, just so it can look more uniform.

Your hair doesn't look bad. That's not a real horrible color disaster. Give it two/three weeks and it should level out. I had a disaster around Halloween(perfect timing) with my color and it softened and took shape after three weeks. You should be fine, just give it a little time.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I really like that color you used on your hair. I just love your hair PERIOD! :yep:

I'm sorry it didnt come out the way you want, but I like the color. What brand and color did you buy?

The color isn't bad. I think it's the fact that you hate the pattern --- "checkerboard" you say--- that it gives off. If you are going to fix it, then fix it, however, I don't think it's going to look bad once you pull your hair back. In fact, the color might give your puff a nice effect! I mean look at my hair. I had a color disaster that broke off my hair (okay get past this part :look:), but as my hair started to grow back, the out of wack sections where I applied color actually look nice once my hair has a rinse and is pressed, or even when I wear it curly. So who knows, what you don't think looks nice now might work to your advantage in the end! ;) HTH. :p

I used Dark-n-Lovely's Honey Blonde on my hair. When I saw the color on my hair, I was SERIOUSLY thinking about coloring it this shade all over :yep:

I love my color, too:yep:, it's just that it did not come out even like I wanted to.

Maybe I should have invested the 40.00 in my hair.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................:look: NAH!!!!

Hey Bub!!!

First of all, I LOVE the color. ITA, it takes time for the color to level out. My color isn't even either. I didn't like my color at first either, but I really like it now. I don't like my hair colored/highlighted close to the roots, so sometimes, I'll use a brown rinse on the roots or just to make some parts look better. The rinse may not work for you if you frequently wash your hair.

As far as the pattern, I think it looks great!!! I would not do a "corrective color", because you run the risk of causing damage. :ohwell: But if you do decide to correct it, don't use the cap. You may want to try the foil method or try your own method of sectioning.

I'm sorry "my homemade" method didn't work for you. I liked it because you have more control of the sections you want colored and you can make the pattern almost exact. I think the streaking cap doesn't give you as much control over where you want your highlights. So even if you went to the salon and if she used the cap, there's a chance that you still wouldn't have been satisfied. :ohwell:

When I got the professional highlights, with a streaking cap, I had somes areas that leaked down towards the roots and some areas that didn't. Then, I had some color that was on the edges of my hair, which I really don't like. It's just something that you can't always guarantee with the cap. I think the foil method is best. Next time I color my hair (next year), I will use the foil method instead.

Oh yeah, as far as coloring all over, :scratchch hmmmm, hmmmm, your hair is tooo beautiful to risk damage. Keep this for a while and then see if you have any ill effects from it.

It's been 2 months since I've highlighted my hair and it's really evened out nicely. Just be patient and see how it goes. If you still don't like it after a few weeks, then maybe make some minor adjustments. I think it looks great!!! :yep: Remember, condition, protein and moisturize!!!

Oh yeah, be careful wearing your hair in a bun or ponytail, because your hair is more prone to breakage and the "pony holder" can wear on your hair and cause breakage.

Hey Kitchen!! About your method- it's not that it did not work for me,it's just that I did not understand how you sectioned your hair off. Did you take very small, medium, or large sections and highlighted them, then took other sections and bantu knotted those:confused: Did you use the conditioner to keep the color from spreading onto the other hair?

What I meant by corrective coloring was that I was gonna highlight sections that were not highlighted, hopefully to give me a better chance of even sections. My aunt is gonna do this for me today, with foil:yep:

And just my luck you mentioned damage from ponytails and lo and behold, my hair is all up in one:lol:

I think you did a great job. It's hard to gauge the color until your hair is completely dry. Next time, I would do more strands at the bottom toward your nape and keep it in just a little longer so that the color is deeper (if that's what you want). I agree with the other ladies. You did a great job and your hair is still very beautiful.

I don't think it looks bad at all, Bubln. In my experience, the cap is a little easier to handle, but foil usually gives more pleasing results. However, it can be difficult to foil your own hair.

I don't see a disaster. I like the color and I don't really see a checkerboard pattern. If you still don't like it after you make a correction then use a Colurshines rinse in a darker color. Stop freakin out, it doesn't look that bad. :)

I think this is a good idea. I know this is after the fact, but I would not have recommended using the cap either. The color looks fabulous!!! I think once you distribute the color more to your liking, you will fully love the outcome as well.

Yeah, my method sounds very confusing. I sectioned my hair ear to ear and put the back in a ponytail. Then I sectioned the front by parting my hair in sections, going straight back (you know like I was going to cornrow my hair). I had about 7-8 rows going straight back and I put conditioner and bantu'ed the sections I didn't want colored. I think my sections were medium. I used an applicator brush to apply the color on the loose hair that I wanted colored.

I also agree with Simplycee, about applying a Sebastian colorshine in a darker color, if you don't like it.

I hope that makes sense. Here's a pic (it's an example of how I sectioned): http://public.fotki.com/Kitchentician/aug_2004_color/2005_0519image0025.html

Again, your hair looks beautiful!!! :yep:
