If I had a weave people would make sure to find out

So today I had to go to my hubby's grandfathers wake  yes depressing.

He has a huge family on both sides, the wake was on his fathers side.

So I was introduced to several family members I never met and the first thing they all went for during the hugs was my hair, I mean fingers to scalp. I didn't get too mad because it was older women so I know they weren't trying to collect samples of my hair for voodoo :lachen: lmao!!!!

Then of course my hubby's moms showed up and yanked my hair :wallbash: (and she wonders why I don't talk to her $$$$@#$#!!).

The point of this post was to say, if I wanted to wear a weave how could I if people are always trying to have their crispy hands in my strands/scalp?

I want to get crochet braids done and then try a partial weave to let my hair grow out but times like these make me happy I don't have a weave, because that would be embarrassing if someone thought it was my hair and their fingers get caught up in tracks/cornrows lol! :lachen:

But at the same time people need to keep their hands out of peoples heads!!!!!! weave or not!

just had to get that off of my chest and I thought of you ladies .

OMG I really can't imagine random people putting their hands in my hair. I would have to kindly ask them to refrain from doing that, or go she hulk so that I'll never have to repeat myself again.

Yikes! Girl, that's just nasty! I'm very serious about my personal space and that would gross me out. I'd have to say something.

^^ true, I don't know them and was in my shy turtle in a shell mode and then it's a wake,

but his moms had no right to yank my hair!!!!!!!! a yank is beef.

That's crazy! It seems like they were trying you for some reason. I mean. Who does that? And at a wake of all places.

I was just thinking about this the other day. My hair is almost brastrap length but I really want to try a clip-in for fullness and extra length, but I feel like I can't because people won't keep their friggin hands out my hair!

People touch my hair so randomly...like yesterday, this one lady walked by and just kinda groped my head...if that makes sense. And then today, a girl was like "ljbee, your hair is so pretty" and just flipped it and everything. I have no problem with people touching my hair, the problem is that people do it to see if it's real or weave and so if I were to EVER weave a track or something and they found out, they would think that my hair was a weave all along. Grrr....

That is just nasty and invasive WHY people go around touching on peoples hair

That is evil and stupid

For some reason I understand this. So cute and girly.

Maybe my being on a college campus has something to do with it. But my family members do it regularly as well.

You may have a point at my old college I used to get so many people feeling up my hair and telling me how pretty it was. I was young and never wore a weave so I didn't get the concept that they were weave checking me.

That is just rude! Can't people just ask if they must know? I mean, if they thought you had breast implants, would they just up and grab on you?

you feel my pain, I do think it is very rude, everytime someone on here posts they they were hair raped :lachen:I respond tell 'em' don't touch, but then when it starts happening to you, you realize it's not easy to just curse folks out.

I want to try alternate styles, if I do guess I won't be granting anyone hugs, or if they go in for a hug i'm gonna give em a pound "what's up son" from a distance :lachen:

yeah it was my in laws, so I couldn't really snap, if it were strangers on the street, then that would've been another story.

Also I think i'm weird because i'm not as offended when it's someone with nice hair that touches my hair :look: guess i'm also biased,

I will compliment folks with nice hair but i've never been the type to touch people's hair, and i've had friends with pretty long hair but never did I hair rape them.

hair rape should be the new term.

i've seen some folks with implants be violated, depends on the person and how touchy they are.

It is rude.

I just realized this was a weave check .......duh (covering blonde roots).

But what about my mother in law yanking my hair, she knows I don't wear a weave, I told my mother and she's like "she's a bald hater" lmao!!!!

:rofl::rofl: The part in bold made me bust out laughing here at work!

I was a family party 2 weeks ago, when I ran into my cousin and her SO.
My cousin remarks on how much my hair has grown. I know she always takes good care of her hair as well. So I start telling her about the forum and how much I learned her, blablabla...
Like 2 minutes later I hear her SO whisper::look: It's fake! And she says::blush: No, it's not. Then he says: But... she gave him the angry face so he didn't continued.
They had no clue they were talking way to loud....
I swept my hair over my shoulder once more and that was my interaction with them for the evening.
Why do they even care?... And what if?... Anyway it's 100% real so no need to think about all that. :drunk:

That's really creepy, lol. I mean it would be worse if you weren't hugging them and they just thought it was okay to molest your hair but it is still partially creepy xD lol

I'd have more respect for folks who would ask me straight out if I'm wearing a weave. I don't want any hands in my hair - I have no idea where your hands have been. :look:

OP I definitely think you were being weave checked. They are clearly all curious to know if your hair is actually real. People touch hair but they don't tend to go for the roots. That's just too invasive by anyone's standards. A passing touch or yank maybe but not fool on roots invasion.

I also think mother in-law might be a bit jelly.....

My advice do it back to them and they will get the message when they arre terrified you will get your fingers stuck in their tracks etc...

Never have I had the urge just to play in a random persons hair. Im really big on not invading personal space cause I HATE people touching me. Hell, I am a hair do it yourselfer just because I hate being that close to my hair stylists. This TOTALLY makes me want to REthink geting a weave or trying to grow past apl. I would go BUCK BANANAS!

It definitely should. I'd say that yanking someone's hair qualifies as an assault of some kind.

Honestly, I think asking a female if she is wearing a weave is just as rude as weave-checking. This is my hair, it's really none of your da*n business if my hair is a weave or not. Unless you are close with me or you are asking to get your hair done in a similar style, do not come up to me asking me whether or not my hair is real! Even if I wonder from afar, I don't ask you about yours!

Oh, and sorry...but I hate it when guys ask girls if their hair is real or fake also. I feel like that's so insulting, especially if she has to say no. If you can't tell, then it must look good enough so don't worry about it!!

Who are these people? I have had people comment on my hair but my hair and scalp have never been felt up. I guess I give off that type of vibe that people know to not even attempt something so foolish. If a person were to touch my hair, I would straight mess their hair up an I know they would get the point.

I agree - touching the hair is one thing, going for the scalp is something else all together. I love the term "hair rape"! Someone did that to me before at church. Just so happened that I did have a few tracks in for fullness. I let her pass that day but I told her about it later and she cried explaining that it was not her intent. Well what else could it have been when you (a grown woman) take all 5 of your fingers and and pop my (a grown woman) scalp like you are grabbing a light bulb or something. If someone earnestly inquired (not just to be all up in my bizness) I would honestly tell them. I could understand why it would be difficult to check the in-laws and especially at a wake and especially if they are older - tryna show respect and dignity you took the high road. Not the right place or time. Good for you, but don't let em try it at the family picnic, its on! LOL - just kidding!
