I was butchered! Stylist CUT 2 Much - HELP!

Hi Ladies -
I use to be on this board regularly a few years ago I learned a ton and I am hoping you ladies will come to my resue now!!

I went to the salon last Saturday - LOTS of damaged ends form a really awful color job I got a year ago that destroyed my hair. I told the stylist that I wanted a hairstyle that would get rid of the damage, willing to go "shorter" if it meant my hair was health. We agree on a style (it was a woman who worked there) I said yeah DO IT JUST LIKE THAT!!

WELL, I CAN'T EVEN BEAR TO LOOK AT MYSLEF IN THE MIRROR! My hair looks nothing like what we talked about!! It is about 9,000 uneven lengths. I am just sick!!

Here are a few questions I want to ask:
woudl any of you go back to a stylist who did this?
even if she did the best relaxer you've ever had?
how many of you do your own hair and rarely visit a salon?

I just went back to relaxing my hair in February, but after this fiasco I am thinking of transitioning, buying a CHI flat iron and doing my own hair, maybe hit the salon 3 times a year for a trim....

and with my hair this short and choppy, I can't even think of a regimen...

I am so OVER hairdressers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry this happened to you. I probably wouldnt go back. Its all about comfort and watching a stylist like a hawk would make my uncomfortable. If you want to grow it back all one length, just get the lenght cut all the way around until it all catches up. hugs

Dang, what an awful story. Im so sorry that happened to you! I personally would NOT go back to her.... now or ever!!! Do your research and find another salon that you like...... and meanwhile, learn how to do some of ure hair stuff at home.

I am so sorry this happened to you, I personally wouldn't go back to her.. I don't frequent stylists often,and I ONLY self -trim.. I hope you can find another good salon and try to nurse your hair back to health on your own.

I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened to you. We put so much trust in our stylist with the hopes that we're going to have a cute "do" when they're done. It will grow back.

This has happened to me so many times based on referrals because I'll see someone with a cute style I'd ask them who did it for them. Discovering that these stylists are too heavy handed, don't use enough products, don't "care" for the hair, uses harsh products or products that my hair doesn't like, make you wait too long and you made an appointment, don't give you what you asked for. LAWD HAVE MERCY!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

On that note to answer your question: No, I wouldn't go back. I've learned to watch them (stylists), use hair products that works for YOU. Go to "Great Clips" for trims and do it yourself. It's not hard, just takes time and patience.

That's what works for me. That way, I won't go to jail for murder! I have to send my children to college and aside of getting into heaven, my goal in life is to kick them out of the house!!! Don't get me wrong, they're good kids, but I'm ready to for 'em to go!

Just looking to both sides, you said your hair was extremely damaged from color. Given that, did she still do a poor job? When i got my hair cut, my hair was still a bunch of different lengths, but that was because she would have had to cut my hair down to 2" to really make it even. Did she explain to you why she cut it the way she did, did you believe her? Or is she just bad at trimming? I think it might be ok to return to her if she is good at relaxing, and you are going to her for that service only. Otherwise, you need to find some one else for your trims, or do trims yourself.

I agree. If she did a good relaxer then I would go back but not for trims. If your cut is really uneven you might be able to find some one to give it more shape which will help with the overall look and style. It is hard to find someone who trims without hacking your hair in half. One thing that helped me before is getting a friend of mine to do it that way I can get them to cut just what I want.

That sucks. That is one of the reasons I learned to cut my own hair and why I went natural. Nobody loves your hair like you do. But you can really minimize the amount of hair maintanence a hairstylist does. If I were you, I'd stick with her for the relaxer and either go to someone else for your trims or learn to do it yourself. And it might be too soon to say this, but on the bright side your ends are at least healthy now. Healthy ends can be maintained while your hair grows versus unhealthy ends causing all kinds of breakage so you don't see any growth as time goes by.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Try to hang in there. Keep up with your regimen, and the hair will grow back in no time. It's no consolation but it's true!

I do everything for my hair myself, except for trims. I found a great stylist who cuts it exactly how I tell her to. I also watch her like a hawk while she's cutting, maybe that's why she does it right. I've also thought about learning to trim my hair myself. Then I can go to my stylist just for special occasions.
