any tips?

Basically I guess I should do the following:

1. Shampoo
2. Condition
3. Leave-In Conditioner
4. An oil or serum? (I think my hair prefers serums on wet/damp hair)

What else? How should I handle my hair until the next wash?

Please list your secrets to Airdrying sucess here.

Thanks!

I air dry in a loose bun or ponytail. If I have a lot of new growth I will tie a scarf down for a little bit to smooth it out.

I usually air dry with my hair hanging straight down--my advice:

*don't squeeze your hair out or towel dry--put your leave-in on and let your hair air-dry from a sopping wet state

*add your oils or serum when your hair is semi-dry, not right after your leave-in

*Have fun

--the benefits of air-drying are tremendous

*air-dried ends look pitiful--it's just an illusion, don't grab the scissors on a whim after looking at your air-dried ends. When the hair is dry, saturate the ends with oil (I use jojoba) and tie your hair up for the night. The ends should look better the next day.

Thanks ladies!

Supergirl,

Before I tie my hair up, should I twist it up and just pull it up like an easy up do? For example, if I pull my hair into a ponytail, but, instead of putting a holder on just twist the length and clip it at the top of my head and put a scarf on?

Something like that?

Thanks again ladies, I plan to try this on Wednesday.

1. Shampoo with whatever shampoo I think of that day

2. Condition with, I'll decide by then.

3. Leave-in: I think I will use my Pantene R&N Setting lotion for this step.

4. Serum- Keracare Silken Seal (I have 2 other ones in my inventory as well though)

5. Oil, I don't have any Jojoba Oil, perhaps Kemi Oyl will work.

Can't wait! I'm off of work that day, so it will have all day to dry.

Flyjump,

Your hair is AWESOME!!!

I like your night time wet twist... I'll have to try that some time...

I totally agree with you Supergirl. I dry hanging down. But if I need to wash at night, I dry in a loose wet twist.
Pretty Brown, I follow the steps that you are taking.

Your hair looks great, Flyjump! Good to see that you are following the same steps I plan to do.

How often do you air dry your hair? How often do you heat style it? I really like the length.

Thank you Pretty Brown. I always air dry and hardly ever use heat. I don't remember the last time I used heat. I plan on straighten it for my b-day this weekend (and jazz fest). Heat-probably 3x a year max. I will take pics this weekend. I am excited!

When I air dry my hair, I first towel dry it. I then add a leave-in conditioner and/or my coconut/olive oil mix. I comb my hair and either braid, bun or ponytail it or leave my hair loose.

Thanks for bumping this Supergirl. I missed this thread before and I love your airdrying tips. When you airdry with your hair hanging down sopping wet, how long does it take for your hair to dry? Do you do this early in the morning and let it hang to dry all day?

Yeah, it takes a while. In the winter and sometimes at other times--I'll sit under a hooded dryer to get the drying started for about 15 minutes. That helps it to dry quicker. Usually when it's about 85% dry, I can wrap it (2-sided wrap) and tie it up or roll the ends and cover it with a bonnet and go to bed.

do u put a towel on your back while letting your hair airdry so your clothes wont get wet??? Do u use a comb or your fingers to distribute the leave-in in your hair???

No, I just wrap a towel around my waist (I live alone

) and let it drip down my back. It only drips for about 15-20 minutes and I don't even notice it.

I air dry my hair every day cold or hot weather... I love it and supergirl is right on the money with air dry tips .

Thank you, SG!

I am another about to take the air drying plunge.

All of this hair care adventure - air drying, conditioner washing, ACV rinsing - my hair will be spoiled!

I've started air drying more last last 3-4 weeks. My hair is short so it doesn't take too long to dry. After it's completely dry I put my hair products in and then wrap them, and tie with a scarf. That takes care of the puffy roots and frizzy looking ends.
