I want to dye my hair so bad, but...

Saga

The Generous Queen
I'm not even sure where to begin :perplexed
First of all, I want it to be ether deep purple, burgundy, or an amber color.
I know a bit about different brands but NOTHING about the maintenance that comes with taking care of color treated hair.
I mean sure, it requires DCing more often to up moisture and yadaydayda
But will my retention begin to change because of the dyed strands?
Are there certain products I can't use anymore due to the chemicals?
If you guys have links to useful threads, please let me know.
I really don't want to have to use bleach in order to get my desired color either, but if necessary I will, just need to know the proper steps and precautions.

Here are some ideas of different colors I'd like:

Idk if I want to do a full head, just the top layers, or high lights. All three seem pretty appealing. I just need some color in my life.

I absolutely love the black with slivers of purple, especially in the asymmetrical cut!

There was a thread on Elumen hair color awhile back. It's supposed to be a lot healthier than regular dyes. I want to try myself but recently. BC' d.

I recommend going to a salon, mid-grade to high end salon, and getting it done by someone who does color all the time. They will use less harsh chemicals to pre-lighten your hair to help get you to your desired color. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT USE A STORE BOUGHT POWDER BLEACH. They are very harsh to the hair. Professionals have hi-lift colors that have conditioners in them that are not present in the store bought consumer bleaches.

I am double processed (relaxed and color lifted) and I DC once per month and try not to use heat on that section of my hair.

I think I'm going to take your advice topnotch1010
What I'll do is get my hair bleached in a salon (by a professional/experienced colorist) then I'll go over it myself with manic panic semi-permanent dye.

So which did you decide to do? I love that purple.

I ended up trying the Adore Rasberry Twist semi-permanent dye and getting a veeeeery subtle slightly burgundy tone on my hair. (my ends were light brown due to the sun exposure so that's where u could see it most)

I didn't bleach it or anything because I was too chicken, I'll probably lighten it one day and make it that rich amber/burgundy color.
