I want purple hair. Advice from hair colouring experts needed!

Right. I dyed my hair with a permanent, level 3 dye, you know, the ones that say that they can lighten your hair without the need for bleaching first. It was supposed to turn my hair purple but what I got was a slight red/purple tint. I am not impressed. I hate 'hardly visible' tints.
I don't want a really really bright purple, just a vivid dark purple colour.
So... has anyone got any advice on what I should do next and when?
My hair is relaxed so I know I probably don't want to be doing any more chemical processes for a while. I also think that because of the permanent dye I've now got in my hair it might be harder/impossible to lighten it.

i would think that you would need to bleach it and then dye it the color you want it to be but i'm not sure. just please make sure to get it done in a salon!!

Yeah, I thought I might need to bleach it... I should probably leave it til sometime after my next relaxer.
I'll have to see if I can face going to a salon though!
