I want long healthy hairrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I recently took my weave out, after having it in for 3 years. There was alot lot of breakage, but ususally when I take it out, that is the case.
I relaxed my hair, about 6 weeks now, I did a touch up about a week ago. But when I did it the first time, the person did not do it straight, so this second time, the hairdresser (which was different from the first one) pulled it to the ends when I was done. It did come out straigher, which might give me a chance to wash and set it myself, mainly because these hairdressers are apparently afraid to roller set, and they now use curling irons.
Could someone please help me with some tips to take care of my hair and to help it grow healthy, I am tired of short hair and hair breakage.
Right now my hair is a on my shoulders and I want it at the middle of my back by the end of the year.
Could I get some advice please!
Helpppppppppppp!

Also, the ends r not as straight as the touch up I just had, it is still a little curly when it is wet, which is the first time having a perm this has happened to me.
I know I cannot put more relaxer to stragthen it.

I'm very sorry about your weave. First I would suggest remove the damaged ends of your hair. Did you deep condition your hair before you relaxed again? You should rinse your hair on a regular basis to ensure moisture, also help with good vitamin supplement, will help to produce stronger hair. The Ladies on this board are very helpful and they will give you a lot of advice.

Well sorry about your breakage. First of all, to start off if you want long, healty hair you will have to trim off those damaged ends.

I am not saying you have to, but that is the smartest way to start off. Youwon't have long healthy hair if you don't. If your ends are split they will just ride up your hair shaft and split all together preventing any real progress.

I would then follow with an extensive series of deep condtioning treaments over the next two months, protein and moisturizing.

As far as the relaxer dept goes, I wouldn't advise retouching the same new growth twice. Maybe someone who is relaxed can help you more with that.

One last thing, never keep a weave in for more than 2-3 months. I prefer extensions to weaves to help me grow out my hair, but if you do get a weave, have it sewn in rather than glued. The glue will not do any good to your scalp.

I guess I would need more info as far as how you were maintaning your hair when you had the weave in. But since you are having major breakgae I will assume not all that great but don't worry it is never too late. The earlier you get yourself on the road to recovery the better chances you will have of regaining most of the length you will be able to keep ( I think I sound like Dr. Phil here, lol)

Sorry I couldn't be of much help sweetie but you are in good hands here.

So sorry about your damaged hair Lovly.
I wore weave extentions and I got a lot of damage too in the past. I would suggest to start by transitioning out of the perm and using a good protein/reconstructor for starters. And by all means, do a search for information on this board. The people here are soooo very helpful. And last but not least, stay as far as possible away from those evil hairdressers!
We are our best hairdressers. No one knows what we need better than ourselves.

Lovly,

I agree with the advice that was given. I'll also say that you should add patience to the list. Trim, deep condition, drink lots of water and be patient. It will happen for you!

By the way, wearing a weave for all those years didn't allow your scalp to breath. Your hair may have grown because it will naturally grow but it obviously was growing in weak. 3 years with straight weave wearing is kind of a long time.

hwell: So, now that we know that... good luck with your recuperation.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I am just having problems when I go to the gym and my hair gets wet and nappy again.
I need something to make it straight when I roller set it.
If anyone can give me some advice, I will be happy.
I used some Straight out by smooth n shine, but it got my hair stiff (YUCK!).
Hope to get a good feedback.
Thanks girls!
