Ladies! I really want highlights! I want alot of them so it gives the illusion that I have all over color. Im looking for a medium brown tone that isnt quite as light as carmel. I went for a touch up yesturday and told my beautician that I wanted highlight and she said she would use texture and tones and that the charge would be $65. Ok now, $65 is not alot but we ALL know t and t doesnt cost more than $10 at the grocery store at the worst!!!
Do you have any color/brand suggestions?
How would I got about doing it myself?
She I use one of those highlighting caps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

BTW I am relaxed with 3c hair

Chaya, I just wanted to say that your updates are the bomb! I hope you get the help you need with highlighting

If you want to do it yourself I would reccomend dark n lovely honey blonde...costs no more than 4 bucks :) I would also recommend the highlighting cap...they sell them at sally's for .99 cents and the needle isn't that much either. I would recccomend that you ask someone to help you with the cap method though...i think its rather difficult to pull your hair through on your own. unless you know what you are doing...plus the other person can determine if the color distribution is even all over the head :)

hth.

I've used African Pride highlights in the past. They are really strong. If you're doing them for the first time you will need the cap (it comes with the A. Pride kit), and a brush. The technique is applying the color to the strands in the right places. I've done them right and really wrong sometimes. Let us know how they turn out.

thanks for your replies! I have heard not so good things about African Pride and Dark and Lovely. I know my mom used D and L years ago and it broke alot of her hair out. The African pride was drying to my sisters and cousins hair. I will do the cap with the little needle method I think that would be the easiest. Any other suggestions on brands or antything? TIA

I would advise you to have them professionally done. I've had a bad experience with Dark and Lovely (a so-called professional messed me up) and would not recommend that product period. I know that getting them done professionally is pricey, but your beautiful hair is worth it. Highlights/color mixed with other chemical processes can be VERY damaging to the hair and hard to correct when done wrong. After you get them you have to take great care of your hair because color can wreak havoc on even the healthiest hair. That's just my 2 cents.

Hey thanks girl! I thought about having my beautician do my color. The place that I go to prides themselves on taking care of hair and keeping your hair healthy so I 100% trust her with the hair doloring porcess. SHe mentioned using Textures and tones but the fact that she is charging me $65 for a $10 product kills me. I guess it includes the application, wash, deep condtition and style so it isnt tht bad. i may have her do it after all. We'll see!

I wanted to do the same thing..but my hairbuddies talked me out of it, So i went to the salon. Honestly she didn't do anything that i couldn't do..and i was directing her the whole way. I had to force the hairstylist tooth n nail b/c she wanted to use bleach..and not the Texture and tones bronze that i brought with me.. Then she wanted to leave it on 45 minutes versus the 20 mins that it said on the box. It was a hassle.

If i could do it again... i would do it myself.

Girl Good Luck in whatever you decide to do! Just be X-tra careful putting any type of light color on your hair! It's dangerous, I know! I am not trying to scare you boo, but I had my stylist do some "highlights" on my hair last November, and my hair broke off to the root from them! I am so scared of that stuff! You just be extra careful! Let us know how it turns out!

Chaya,

Girl, I am in the same boat with you girl!! I have been wanting to put highlights in my hair for the longest. I have what you would call "virgin hair" (never touched by dyeing agents). I am scurred to death to do it myself, but can't find a good AA salon where I live to do them for me.:( Thats been my dileamma. School starts for me in 2 weeks and coming through with a new hair hue would be nice. I have purchased the Textures and Tones bronze highlighting kit but never used it and a coloring kit from another company( not sure on the name).....they are just collecting dust cause I don't want to my poor hair to get broke off....or put the highlights in the wronf spots...cause I aint no professional!;)
