Not on my hair, but my mom's.
She's my guinea pig.
I saw the funny looking case of it in CVS, and decided to pick it up.
It costs 12.99!
Well, anyway, I did her relaxer on Monday. First off, there was this little tub of perm! I was like, WTF? That's not enough to cover a baby's head! It came with two jars of perm (there was double of everything, but I only needed to use one). Usually, no-lye relaxers come with a bottle of activator. This one came with a packet of CREAM activator! I had to mix the packet of activator with the perm. That was kinda odd, I'm used to stirring the liquid with the perm, not cream with the perm.
So, I applied it to her newgrowth (she has short hair) but she hadn't had a perm in a good 6 months. I applied it with no gloves on whatsoever. The directions said to use gloves, but I didn't. I hate them.
The application of the perm went very well. The perm was more like a creamy mixture, which helped it to glide on nicer and neater.
I applied it to her newgrowth all over, then went back and combed it through with a fine tooth comb (yes, I do that!). Her hair felt so smooth while I was doing it, I had no problems combing the newgrowth at all.
Then, it was time to rinse it out. She was mad at me because I didn't leave it on for an hour like she normally does.
I left it on, no more than a half an hour, but definitely less than that.
While I was rinsing it out, that was where I noticed the difference in this perm compared to other no-lye ones that I've used.
Usually, no-lye perms leave the hair straight when rinsing out, but the hair always has this gritty feeling, though it's straight (yah no-lye users know what I'm talking about) . I didn't notice this at all with this perm, it felt really soft!
And on top of this, I didn't use gloves. Normally when I do that, my nails turn yellow, but this didn't happen at all!
The fun part was neutralizing!
I broke out the neutralizing mousse that came in the kit. It squirts out like a liquid, and then swells into a foam. It lathers VERY nicely.
It smells sorta like their creams, but not in a bad way. So, I did that tiwce, and I was done! They give you a packet of Break-Free leave-in as the conditioner. They also tell you on the directions to use Break-Free on the relaxed hair before perming as a way of protection, but not to put it on the newgrowth. I didn't do this at all, I was in a hurry.
After blow-drying her hair, I noticed that this perm did not make it bone strait. There was alot of thickness left, but not kink, so that was a good thing.
QUESTIONS
Will I be using this perm again? Yes.
Why? Because two applications came in the box, so I still have another one left to use.
After this, will you be using it again?
Yes!
