I think I've OD'd on protein...

Ok...so I'm having MAJOR breakage and I'm guessing it's due to me using too many protein products. And I think I went overboard with the hardcore Aphogee stuff :nono:. I've never experience this amount of breakage and I'm scared!! What restores the protein/moisture balance? Am I just supposed to wait it out and hope the breaking will stop or should I start moisturizing like crazy?? Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!!

((HUGS))

I would moisturize to counteract the effects of the protein overload. Do a good moisturizing DC and follow up with a good moisturizing conditioner and see how it goes.

If your hair is breaking that badly, maybe an overnight DC might help. Hopefully some of the other ladies will chime in.

Good luck!

Regular moisturizing won't restore the moisture in your hair. You have to deep condition to do that. But don't use conditioners that are full of cones, get something that actually moisturizes. Try deep conditioning twice a week till your hair is back to normal

BTW, how often were you using Aphogee to get such horrible breakage?

Thanks for the responses! I used the 2 min Aphogee either every week or every other..and I just used the hardcore Aphogee about 8 weeks ago and I used it again this week...I'm going to DC with heat tomorrow, but are the ORS Replenishing paks loaded with protein too? Or should I just stick with something like HE Hello Hydration?

If you use Hello Hydration beef it up with honey/molasses/maple syrup and an oil of some kind like castor, olive, or coconut.

HE alone really isn't the best conditioner for a DC, especially in your case.

I agree with the above posters...DC! DC LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW!

I;m definitely taking all of this advice and DCing w/ oils (emu&coconut)as well as co washing/ DCing next week until I go home next Sat (I'm in college...) Thank you soooo much for your help

Something like Nexus Humectress would be better to deep condition/moisturize with. Also, applying Porosity Control for 3 minutes, rinsing then adding Humectress to DC (45 minutes or longer) will be even better. Porosity Control will restore your hair to the proper pH and the moisturizing conditioner will "take" even better. :)

ITA! Porosity Control and then Humectress overnight!

I agree with the deep conditioning
Also, add an oil to your conditioner when you deep condition for an added moisturizing effect
Use something thick like castor oil
Your hair will feel much better afterwards

I just did a aphogee protein treatment 2 nites ago.. it was much needed!

When I rinsed it out I immediately did a moisturizing deep conditioner w/heat under the dryer for about 15 min. This restored moisture.

then after rinsing that out I applied a rinse out conditioner and then followed it with a leave in.
