I think i have found the key to doing MY wet buns

I am such a fan of wet buns, i have been doing them for almost a year. i think it has been one of the main if not the main reason my hair has grown the way it has.

I put my wet or moist hair in a ponytail and then i wrap the hair around the hair tie and then secure with a another hair tie.

The problem with this is i feel as though its rubbing my ends together. When i take down my bun there is hair wrapped around the hair tie. Granted its like 6 strands but still. There is hair in the hairtie everytime i take it down though.:perplexed

Soo i have been doing some research on youtube and i think i may try doing buns with a HAIR NET... what do you guys think??

I will put my hair in a ponytail then wrap the hair net around my hair and then secure with a pin. So there is no wrapping of my hair around the hair tie, theres no manipulation of the hair shaft. i think its a pretty solid plan. Check out the youtube videos to see what i mean.....

This one without the twisting...

What do you think?? would it work?? would it not??

I too have hair wrapped around my hair bungy cord every single time I bun, wet or dry....
Thanks for the tips.

Another good trick is to soak your ponytail holders in oil. I used to soak mine in olive oil and that stopped the hair wrapped in the hair tie problem.

^^Yes ma'am, I can't even remember where I picked up that tip, and if I was being lazy I would spray my hair ties and sock bun with my ORS Olive Oil Sheen.

hmm. thanks for the tip. i've been using hairnets lately, mainly to help keep the hair from unraveling. guess i'll keep doing that.

@Glamorous chic: where do you buy your hairnets??? Can they be found at CVS or a local Beauty Supply Store? and How do you use your hairnets?

for the hair wrapped around the hair tie problem:
I wet bun daily and I use to have this problem and it would be much more than a "few" strands, but I recently started cutting ties from the leg of an old pantyhose (advice from reading other threads) and now there are absolutely no strands around it when I take my hair down ..
idk how it does it .. but it works

@NC: That is an amazing tip, i think i remeber reading something about that. I might try that after the hairnet idea, if it doesnt work. Thanks!!

Girl, that is an amazing tip. I'm off to soak my hair tie and redo my bun right now!!:grin:

I love doing wet buns (been doing them for years), and I think it helps a lot with hair growth (at least for me).

I have a few ways of doing mine:

1. place hair in a ponytail, twist hair, coil around the base of the ponytail and secure with a Good Days Hair Pin.

2. place hair in a ponytail, do one big two strand twist, tuck under and secure with a Good Days Hair Pin.

3. place hair in a ponytail, tuck ends under and secure with a Good Days Hair Pin.

When I do my ponytails, I use Scrunci Soft and Light Hair Hosiery No Damage Elastics. When I take them off, I never pull them off, I just untwist it off (i.e. reserve of putting it on) so I won't lose any hair taking them out. Here's a link:

I could not have transitioned without the wet bun. I have been oiling my band - when i think of it - and it does seem to help. What really helps is not yanking it out, which i am so apt to do. And yeah, hairs entwined in it everytime. Nonetheless, I seem to be really flourishing in my hair growth, retention and thickness, regardless of a few strands of hair. I don't detangle, either. I just grab it and go in a messy bun when it's slopping wet.

I luv em and will never give 'em up. NEVA!!

@Allandra: it seems as though you are doinng yur buns the same way i do mines. It all depends on how i feel when i do it. the only difference is you secure with a pin and i secure with another hairtie.im might have to change it up and use a pin.

@ Br*nzeb: Girl you aint never lied. I love wet buns, i sure would not have been able to strecth relaxers without it. you wet bun and go? how do you deal with frizzies? i wet bun at night and then tie my hair down with a scarf so my hiar is nice and smooth for the next day.

HairTemptress, this is exactly what I've been doing since the summer.

I bought lots of thin hairnets from Sally's and use those over my buns. I even let them soak in a bit of coconut oil, spray with S-curl or rub some Chi Silk Infusion over them.

I find that the nets help to gather any loose hairs that want to stick out.

I've been wearing my hair in small double strand twists that I pull back into a ponytail. I then twist the ponytail around itself, tuck the ends under the bulk of hair, get a hair pin to hold the bun, then cover it with the hair nets. I use about five or so.

Some are smaller, I usually use those first, then I have some larger ones. I use those to wrap around the the bun around and around to make a bit tighter. Once that's done, I then take the hair pin out because the bun is secure enough with the nets and my Scuni rubber band.

Usually before bun-netting, I'll spray my ponytail with either water or S-curl, then seal with coconut oil. I've been lazy lately, so I'll keep it in for about 2-3 days, then take it down to remoisturize. When I take it down, my hair is still moisturized.

@Tallnomad: you use 5 hairnets?, how thick is your hair?, how big are the hairnets?. i thought i was genius with this new plan to bun my hair. buuuuutttttttttttttt it looks like you thouht of it before me. lol.

HairTemptress, I don't have frizzies. I also tie my hair down at night (when i feel like it) and in the morning - if i don't cowash, i'll rewet, bun and tie down with a scarf for a few minutes...by the time of my destination, my hair's perfect. No frizzies or stray hair. Just nice and smooth and wavy. It's just way too easy. I'm almost embarassed to take so little time on my hair. I don't even detangle. When it's time to straighten, i'll detangle then, which could be a month or so down the road...

@Br*nzeb: How thick is your hair?, Are you relaxed or natural? ,if you are relaxer how long ago was your last relaxer? Do you experience any negative ramifications in not detangling your hair??. Because i dont detangle that much either. How often do you straighten? i know its alot of questions ..he he he

Great minds think alike! :yep:

My hair is super duper thick. But, I'm also a little obsessive with making sure I don't have any hairs at all sticking out. I'm sure a "normal" person could use one and be fine with it, but because I can be a bit "extra," I use many--that's just me though.

I have two smaller hairnets and then the other ones are larger.

These are the ones I use:

Transitioning for 2 years on January, 2010 (last relaxer jan/08) - 2 inches of relaxed endz left.

My hair is medium thickness. I'm recovering from hair loss. YaaY**

I have not received any negating effects from this reggie of mine.

I've been doing it for months, no, the last 2 years, to be honest.

I don't think i experience more shedding as a result, either.

I'm progressing nicely. I'm happy with my reggie.

I straighten - whenever. Sometimes every month, sometimes every two weeks - it depends on my social calendar. LOL!

I think it would be great if i could straighten every three months, but that's wishful thinking...funny thing is, when i DO straighten my hair, i can't wait to feel my curlies again :spinning:

@Br*nzeb: you are my hero...first you have been transitioning for 2 yrs... what!!! i stretched m relaxer for 9 mo and almost went crazy. secondly you straighten once a month???... you are better than me. I RUN from heat. I straighten ONLY for special occasions. It was homecoming at my shcool i straightend, im going to straighten for thanksgiving and Christmas. After that only God himself knows. probably not for a long while.
