I was going to se Morena at divas for my next relaxer but I live in greensboro and that would be an hour plus ride and due some things that have come up in school, I am not going to be able to get away to do that anytime soon. My last relaxer was july 25th I think and I got alot of newgrowth. I haven't gotten as much breakage as I have in the past mostly because my overall care is alot better but its TIME. I would try to strech it a little longer but right now I am doing my cardio just about twice a day and washing, conditioning and rollerseting twice a day is just not going to cut it. I was thinking about using the silk elements relaxer because of the great reviews it has gotten. For those who self relax and or use silk elements what do you do before and after you relax.

Well, I dont self relax, my stylist does my relaxers. I just make sure I base my scalp really well, because Im using the Silk Elements lye. Some people put conditioner or oil on their hair before they relax also. As far as neutralizing, a lot of ladies dont like the Silk Elements neutralizing poo, because they say that its too drying. My stylist uses Elasta qp neutralizing poo, and it doesnt seem drying at all. And then next, of course, deep condition, rinse out, and style as ususal. I hope I answered all of your questions. If I didnt, try doing a search, and Im sure you will find dozens of post on Silk Elements, as it seems to be a new favorite. :D

Depending on your hair texture be careful which formula you get. I have 4a hair and the normal nearly straightened it bone straight. I would first start with mild cause this stuff is good. Best of all it really leaves your hair silky. I would do a strong protein like aphogee or Emergencee a week before the relaxer. After you do the protein treatment oil your scalp with castor oil every 2 days or so, this helps prevent burning...to be honest with you I scratched my scalp 2 days before and didn't experience any burning. Style your hair as you usually would make sure you don't wash your hair 2 days before relaxing. After you do the relaxer follow with a moisture treatment of your choice. About 1 to 2 weeks after your relaxer do another hardcore protein treatment again (Aphogee or Emergencee) to build up your hair. HTH.

Same here. I have 4a/b hair, and the regular got me bone straight! I kind of want to try mild, but it might leave it underprocessed. Whats a girl to do? And Im also wondering if I will be able to stretch using mild?

Yeah I have the same questions too, but I'm texlaxed. After I saw how straight my hair was getting I washed it out with a quickness. I'm thinking the mild may be okay for texlaxing since I don't want it that straight. I don't know how it would work out for you though but I'm thinking it would be okay, you'd still get straight but with alot of body. You'd probably have to leave it on for the maximum time though. You should be able to stretch you just have to up your protective styles in the mean time, I won't know my results of the mild cause I don't relax until another 2 months. I'll keep y'all updated though!

I love Silk Elements! Before relaxing, I oil my scalp and cover my relaxed ends with grease and conditioner. I create 4 sections of hair to be relaxed with 3 sub sections of hair within the 4 sections. I secure the sub sections with baby barrettes. The hair is detangled and parted so when I apply the relaxer I just pop off the baby barrettes and apply. I use the Regular Formula strength of the lye relaxer. This past time I left mine on for 22 minutes and it got my hair straight with nice body. After rinsing out the relaxer I apply Wella Regeneral ph normalizing lotion for 2 min, rinse, lather and rinse several times with Proclaim Neutralizing poo, lather again and allow it to sit for 5 min, rinse, lather and rinse again. I then deep condtion with an ORS Replenishing Pak mixed with some other conditioner. It's a good idea to follow up with an reconstructor treatment like Aphogee 2 min Reconstructor plus a moisturizing conditioner for the next wash after the relaxer touch up. HTH

Question????????????
does anyone add anything to their relaxer? like olive oil? rosemary? castor? just curious.

I used to but the last relaxer I did, which was silk Elements I didn't add anything. I wanted to see the full effects, next time I'm using the mild but IDK if I'll add anything because it got my hair pretty silky and it's still moist.

I personally do not add anything because as I always say it's like a conditioner with a relaxer thrown in. The ingriedients include avocado, coconut, and jojoca oils, shea butter, collagen and silk. IMO there is no need to add anything else to this relaxer, it's perfect as is. They better not EVER change the ingriedients. :naughty:
