I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I finally had my hair cut yesterday and started on Brewer's Yeast Today. I purchased the powdered and was amazed at how much nutrients is in just two little tablespoonfuls. I looked at the Mega-Hair Vitamins and the Biotin, but decided to go with Brewers Yeast for it's many great properties.

My mom said when we were little we were heavy into the supplememts, soy burgers, and yoga. I remember her hair being extremely long and healthy. She says it was the Brewers Yeast mostly. So I decided to give it a go.

I think it's one of, if not the best supplement you can take, but let me warn you...the powder is not the best tasting stuff. I almost threw up! Luckily though, it comes in pill form too. But besides the taste, I'd say try it. I'll let you know what my results are.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Does it make you fat ? or gain weigh, what does it do, to give hair growth thanks

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Mamamia,
I also bought brewer's yeast. It is too nasty for me to take. Is your powder fine or a grainy consistency? Mine is grainy. I want to get the pill form, but I 've wasted $17. Good luck and

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I'm bringing up an old thread I know... but I need help! I bought this DREADFUL tasting stuff yesterday after hearing of its DYNAMIC health benefits (better than most multi's). I opted for the powder over the pills because the serving size of the pills is 6 capsules and I am swallowing enough pills as it is. To make a long story short.... is there anyone who made it through a whole can of the powdered stuff???? I don't want to throw it away and get the pills (I will have wasted $20) but if someone has recipes or any tips on how to get this stuff down without puking, I will definitely appreciate it.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I will try to bump the Brewer's Yeast fiasco thread for you.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Thanks melodee!!! Just pray for me. I am intent on not throwing this stuff away. I did find a facial recipe for the stuff too. Maybe someone has a hair recipe?

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Update. I mixed this with orange juice and 80% of the yucky taste was covered. I could still smell it though. I just might be able to pull this off. I think tomorrow I will put it in lemon juice (stronger than OJ) and see how it works.

iCandey ~ They say not to take this if you currently have a yeast infection but it does not CAUSE them.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I've never tried the powdered Brewer's Yeast, but maybe you could mix it in the blender with protein powder, milk and fruit.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

thanks tracy21
I think after I reach my hair goal I will use this as my primary hair vitamin (as long as the yeast is not a problem for my body)

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Tracy21,

Do you cook?

You can add the brewer's yeast to your pancake mix.

Or, if you drink smoothies or protein shakes you can add
the powder to those drinks. HTH

Pancakes does sound like a good idea. I was just trying to avoid drowning them in Mrs. Butterworth to mask the taste. I did find out that putting it in orange juice with a few squeezes of lemon works miracles.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I purchased Brewer's Yeast tablets from my grocery store. I've heard on the board a lot of benefits of taking this supplement for your hair. In case you didn't know, Brewer's Yeast is rich in B vitamins, which is essential for your hair. I've been taking them since April and my hair really loves it. I would prefer the tablets over the powder, since you don't have to worry about

, and wasting money. Toodles.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Thanks BabyCurls.

Unfortunately I had already bought the powder. (I think mine is actually considered flakes.) I am just trying to find a way to make it through this can because I didn't want to waste money. Also, I had heard that the majority of the pills and "debittered" powders are not the 100% brewer's yeast and were some synthesized replica. So trying to stick to the "natural" stuff... I purchased the most horrid tasting supplement in the world.... Did I mention the smell??? That alone... makes you want to kill somebody.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Just make sure that you don't want to be close to someone when you take that stuff, though. lol

Hi Tracy21,

I am a vegetarian and when I had the time to make some homemade things I would use the Brewers Yeast Flakes in making my own "Pimento Cheese Sauce". Though it wasn't a perfect substitute for Cheddar Cheese, I would use it to make my macaroni and cheese dishes or any dish that used cheese (lasagna, eggplant parmesan and other tomatoes sauce dishes that require cheese...) The flakes have been liken to by others as having an imitation cheese flavor. I know, I have some in my freezer, let me give it a taste while its not mixed in something else..ugh!..double ugh!..what in the world. I don't know how to describe the taste and I surely don't want to ever try it straight for the purpose of trying to describe it. I definitely don't think it resembles a cheesy flavor by itself but I can tolerate when it's mixed in with the other ingredients in my sauce. It must be the lemon concentrate as well as the onion/garlic combo in the sauce that helps to mask that awful taste . The powder might be even worst in that I would think it to be more concentrated than the yellow flakes.

Now the powder on the other hand might taste totally different but if it's the same as the brewer yeast flakes and if your not a vegetarian then I would suggest you try it mixed in some of your foods (your serving not in the pot of food) like your portion of mac and cheese (if creamy), cooked that veggies that are served with a sauce, casseroles, etc... And if it works on those thing then mix it in some sauces (cheesy types), hamburger, meatloaf etc...

Update: My husband read my post and thought it was negative and decided to taste the Brewer's Yeast Flakes straight. He described it as being "A bit Zesty".

I hope this helps.

Sorry for the long post.
Newbie in the mix.

Peace

I totally agree with you. It smells much worst than I expected it to.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I went to a vegweb site and notice there is a Brewer's Yeast and a Nutritional Yeast flakes....though I can't find the contain for the yeast that I have in baggies in my freezer, I think mine was call Brewer's Nutritional Yeast Flakes.

The site also gave this 411 on the two yeast: "Brewers' Yeast (granules) has a bitter, "skunky" flavor and nutritional yeast (flakes) has more of a "cheesey" or "chickeny" flavor, depending on how it is cooked."

Sorry for any confusion.

Peace

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I don't know for fact but I'm not sure about putting BY in pancake mix and they cooking them, this might mess with the vitamin potency.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Hmm....my brewer's yeast smells like peanut butter. Should it?

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I have been taking Lewis Labs Brewers Yeast for years -- two tablespoon every day. I put it in everything: oatmeal, cold cereal, protein shakes, gravies, breads, pancake batter, juices and milk, (sometimes, just stir in water and drink) but I get it somehow every day. BY is one of the "complete foods" that has a boatload of nutrients that normally NOT in the American diet because our agriculture practice deplete the soil of nutrients. It is an excellent supplement to ANY diet and will give extra boost to those already taking B-complex vitamins.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

I may have already posted this but I took Brewer's yeast for about 6 months with absolutely no difference in my hair.

Re: I started Brewer\'s Yeast today!

Update on the Brewer's Yeast:

I bought Swanson Brewer's Yeast and had been kind of leary so I decided to let my pets try it first. I know - "bad mommy" but it is also susposed to keep the fleas off of dogs and improve a rabbit's coat. Well, let just say that after several attempts and dirty looks from my dog and rabbit, I gave it a try myself. Mixed in with some steamed veggies and Mrs. Dash it was pretty good, and it added some zest to the food.

I haven't tried mixing it in orange juice yet, but will keep you guys updated. Anymore recipes using Brewer's Yeast?

PS - Here's the kind that I bought:
