I can't remember who it was, but someone posted thier regimine and in it they mentioned that we should not keep buying every product that is recommended here. Now Everytime I get the urge I am quoting those words. I bought the Scurl and it WAS kinda sticky and I don't particularly care for the smell of it. Granted it was only $2.99. But /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I bought the Mango Butter last week and it's OK I used it only a couple of times maybe I'll keep at that one.

One the other hand A product that I decided to try I've never seen mentioned here and it was FANTASITIC. (Go Figure)

Has anybody else bought stuff that was raved about and you ran out an bought and was like "WHATEVER" /images/graemlins/perplexed.gif

Yes girl..I've bought plenty and was disappointed /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif. One of many is the Lottabody creme wrap that everyone raves about. I didn't like how my hair felt afterwards. But then there were plenty that I bought and loved such as Elucence (all products) /images/graemlins/clap.gif.
So I guess what works for someone else's hair might not for yours. It's a trial and error thing. /images/graemlins/whyme.gif

I bought the Suave tropical coconut and did not like it very much. Since I placed myself on a stricter budget this year, I decided to be really careful about going out and buying products that everyone is raving about.

I guess.. But boy that can be expensive.

I got the Lotta Body Creme Stuff to. I don't know about that one yet, I hav'nt wet set yet (hey that rhymes) I did use it with caruso and came out ok.

I bought Dark and Lovely cholesterol partly because I liked it and because of the way that people raved on about it. I had used it before with relaxed hair, but it is a definite no-no for natural hair(my natural hair).

I do like ORS hair mayo (My sister even stole it and I had to buy another). It was fantastic, Thankyou ladies. I would never have bought it because of the packaging. Nobody mentioned the smell either but it is a good product so it is probably worth it. I have got Elasta QP mango butter and I am going to try that. I have both curl activators (S-curl and world of curls)and I am yet to use that.

The only products I haven't tried to buy are the UBH products because everyone seems not to agree on them.

I confess that I am easily influenced and I am a product junkie. I love the ladies' recommendations and I will buy them and try them. You wouldn't know until you try.

Yeah, you're very right, it can be very expensive but like londongirl said "You wouldn't know until you try" /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Well I have jeans for £40 ($50-60) and that is just an average price. If I chose not to buy two pairs of jeans, Imagine the products that I could get !!!!!!!!! Yes I am a pj /images/graemlins/grin.gif

LOL OK, I guess you are.!!!

I bought Motions CPR and I have to say, it hasn't done anything especially great for my hair. First of all, I hate all those little hard things in it (herbs, I guess??)- they are a pain to wash out of my hair! I definitely prefer the ORS Hair Mayo, and I'm not really raving about that one, either!! I think there are many other protein/moisturizing conditioners which work just as well...But many on this board love both of them, so go figure!! /images/graemlins/look.gif

It all goes back to different products working differently on everyone's hair. It's all about experimenting and finding out what works best for YOU!!!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yep, you know Lindy I think I'm gonna find that the best things for my hair was stuff that I had all the long....

lindy, i hate Motions CPR for the very same reason... i call them little pieces of crap. lol! they're so hard to get out. i figured there has GOT to be a way to condition my hair good and not look like i have dandruff. plus the fact that the stuff had me smelling like a banana split. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

for most people, it can go either way with the curl activator. alot of people don't even want to think of trying it because of jheri curl nightmares. lol! mindymouse, you're the second person in a week that's mentioned the S-Curl smell. that's so odd because i like it because it hardly has any smell at all.

Suave Coconut condit is disgusting on my hair...damn I hated that stuff.
Fantasia IC deep penetrating was also awful and left my hair hard and brittle
Kenra Intensive Emollient.. puhllezzz Thoroughly disgusted
Motions Moisture Plus made my hair feel sticky and dirty after a while
I dont see the big deal about Arosci leave in either

... hmm there's got to be more, I've experienced more misses than hits

......................................................................................................................

Stuff i'm starting to dislike

ORS carrot oil.. I thik it may be a tad bit too heavy for my hair, I'm gonna lay off for a while and see if i have better luck with it in a few weeks (overall i like it)...Okay, that was jsut an excuse to buy some profective products
/images/graemlins/look.gif.. bad girl
I've learned the beauty of using a new shamp every once in a while.. it really makes a difference (kerapro did wonderfully on my hair last night)
that's it

My goodness yes. I bought the Pantene Smooth & Sleek and hated it so much I threw it out. I very rarely throw anything out, I usually just pass them on to someone else.

Pandora, got the idea. Samples...

We should write to companies and be like

"Excruse me, I'm a Product Junkie do you have any free samples" lol

Or we could be dignifed and be like "Hi, My name is ___ and I participate on an internet message board for haircare. We constantly exchange product information for our research, would you be able to provide a free sample of your product"

OR, We could be just plain Ghetto "Look, A Sista is Broke but Need a Fix, na mean, let me get that sample".

LOL

Lord I going to bed cause I'm tired...

Well said Mindymouse, but say which of the three request styles would work. I'd really love to know /images/graemlins/grin.gif

ROFLMAO!!!! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

I of course dont have a set regime so i am experimenting with a bunch of products to figure out what will work best for me. my next experiment is elucence which i plan to purchase sometimes soon. since i am in and out of braids i never really get to stick to a regime for too long to figure out what works. i do know i like breakthru and i like elasta qp. that i know. and i loving the braid sheen by dark and lovely. all recommended here. sometimes i let the hype die down a bit and then wait and see if i still want to buy it. i mean with braids its hard to try all these types of product so i have no choice but to wait a couple of months to see if people are still in love with the product and then i see if i want to give it a try. i have been holding off buying elucence since last spring and now i am giving in. God bless you all.

I can think of a few things I've tried and hated. Proclaim Carrot Oil was not heavy enough for my hair. Motions Wrap lotion broke my hair off. Carefree Curl Gold made my hair look like I needed a relaxer again. But I like trying new products. Luckily most of what I try and don't like my husband will use /images/graemlins/grin.gif

/images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif MM whatever you do stick with the 2nd one.

***sometimes i let the hype die down a bit and then wait and see if i still want to buy it**

Now that's and Idea. Cut down on that impluse buying.

mindy,

if you are at the start of your hair journey, dont feel so bad about buying a lot of products. that one of the only way u will know for sure what works and what does not. for the products that dont work now, save it for later and it might work someday when your hair characteristics changes (yes weird but true!). /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I tried the Elucence line. IMO, it's okay, nothing to rave about. Their shampoo isn't as moisturizing on my hair as it is for others on the board. Yet, it's one of the better shampoos on the market in my opinion. I prefer Arosci shampoo.

I cracked up at work after reading that!!! Request method #2 would probably work best, but wouldn't you feel like just coming at them w/ #1 or #3. Like "hook a sista up!"
2 Funny!

AmiLlion, I've been holding out on buying the elucence line myself. Howw did you like the conditioner?? I have sooo much shamp, It will take me forever to start trying another shamp. I want to try them as a pair, b/c if i do one without the other, I fear i wont get the full benefits.
Also at your rec, and many others, the Mango Butter is on my "to try" list!

beana3,

I tried the Elucence shampoo and conditioner together and I wasn't WOW'ed either. Nothing even remotely special happened. It smells good but so does other stuff. I guess it all depends on the hair type/condition - I dunno.

I bought a HUGE bottle of the conditioner too. I'm going to keep them though and use it every blue moon when I feel like a change from my staple products.

It's not a horrible shampoo and conditioner by far, it just didn't do anything noticeable.

thanks for the review Pmichael!
I have a bunch of "professional products" that work okay on my hair...
nexxus line is ok.. i would definitely use it again if i had nothing here
Mizani moisturfuse wasn't too bad either, but not worth my money!.. their shampoo sucks /images/graemlins/blush.gif
Joico shamp is ereally good on my hair, but that wouldn't make me go and try their whole line.. i feel like i'd be setting myself up!
it seems like i get better results from common brands. Oh well! /images/graemlins/smirk.gif i guess if i get some Extra money in the future i'll give it a try just to get it out of my system

I have been a product junkie for years. When I was relaxed, and I'm tapering off now that I'm natural. A lot of products mentioned here worked well with my relaxer. But as a natural the products don't cut it as much. Since I've used most products mentioned here, I already knew what worked and what didn't.

The only thing I've bought since I've been here was the lottabody cream wrap. I used the lotion on my relaxed hair and my hair came out good. When I tried to use Lottabody Lotion with my natural hair my hair went crazy. But the thing is I had this product under my shelf already as a relaxer product junkie. The cream wrap works well for me because as a natural it straightens out my hair well and my hair is not crunchy and hard as it dries.

I must admit I've been a product junkie since the time my mother left me to do my own hair (12). So me tapering off now at 24 is a good thing. It's sad to know that even before I had a computer or knew anything about hair boards I would go into a beauty supply store and go stupid buying stuff for myself.

That's a Shame. Tapering off twelve years later. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Me too, because I couldn't wait to use up my Mizani Moisturfuse and Mizani Fulfyl. However, Keracare did WOW me and so did the Joico integrity leave-in Spray but other than that... the more expesive products still worked like the same oldies but goodies.

I hated Redken's All Soft Heavy Cream. It made my hair hard and tangled. /images/graemlins/mad.gif Of course, because I thought I needed to use the whole line to see the benefits, I bought the All Soft Shampoo. Hated that, too. I also dislike Nexxus Humectress for the same reason. Just goes to show that what works for one won't necessary work for everyone!
