I've used the Suave version as a leave in, full strength. I actually like it better as a leave in than as a conditioner.

I believe it would be safe. Basically almost any conditioner would serve that purpose, save for the possibility of gross buildup.

I actually made the leave-in last night. I squirted about 1/4 of the bottom of the bottle, full of the cond (generic Nexxus) and filled the rest of the bottle w/ water. I wear braid outs 95% of the time and usually, alot of hair comes out and my ends feel brittle(BTW, I only comb my hair when I wash it--once/wk or once every 2 weeks). Last night, I sprayed the same amount I usually do and I didn't get the tangles and braiding my hair was much easier.
Today, my hair doesn't feel as dry-- my ends NEED to be clipped so I don't know if the "less dry" feeling is an indicator. I will probably continue w/ this until the bottle runs out or until I stop being lazy and pick up my Daily Dr.
