Hit him up for a follow up visit, should be no charge for a FOLLOW UP; speak your mind and tell him rogaine is not for you and you would like a proper analysis!

LOL Docs crack me up. You aint gettin no free follow-up.

I suggest you get a second opinion with another derm if you didn't like his analysis.

How do you know Rogaine is not for you until you try it?

MizzBrown, it is possible. I get them quite often. I do not accept throw off opinions from physicians nor do I accept rush opinions from them; should I be frazzled or confused at the first visit I go right back and there is no charge to my insurance nor do I give a co-pay. Depending on the insurance the first consultation is NO CO-PAY CHARGE. The insurance may not pay for the second derm appt.

I gotta tell you I used Rogaine for 2+ years and love it! I had great growth in my balding spot. In the past few months I have transitioned to Emu oil without any further hair loss in that spot. I bought the knock off brand of minoxidil on ebay. It worked great for me but was a bit drying to my hair (I am not sure if that was the chemical or the mineral oil that is used in it). So if you choose to give it a try make sure it only goes on your scalp.

My mother noticed her hair was getting thinner in an area on her scalp. She went to my Dermatologist who just looking initially said she didn't think it was, but then took a scalp sample and sent off for testing. Testing came back confirming that it was indeed thining...her recommended treatment was also rogaine.

Hi ladies.

I really was hoping that he would be able to tell me SOMETHING. Which is good and bad...

good because he said that my scalp looked great and he didn't see any scaling or pustules, etc. He didn't see anything that would indicate scalp trouble. He also said that he didn't think it was chemical/relaxer related because he didn't see any breakage at all (thanks LHCF). He said I had good bloodflow but that he did notice a little thinning in one certain spot.

bad because he was really sitting there like "I have no idea". I asked him if it could be hormone related (I had my tubes tied which can let to an estrogen/progesterone issue) he said it could be but AGAIN hard to make that call. He was literally sitting there like "HUH...try Rogaine".

I guess I was expecting a trial run of something prescription grade or more concrete diagnosis...(shrugs)

He told me to try to space out chemical treatments and to get Rogaine. Rogaine is 30 bucks...

I may go ahead and put off my retouch for another month and do the Rogaine to see if it helps. I may also go for a second opinion because with my insurance I don't think a follow up is free...

Would you have rathered him start off with something prescription, pay $40 a month or it be something your insurance won't even cover and then try Rogaine and that be the thing that helps?

My doctor upsets me when she suggests OTC stuff, but I'd rather make a smaller investment than to purchase something more pricey that I didn't need it or it didn't even work.

I generally don't trust derms and refuse to go. One told me my burns on my face and feet were from my allergies to my lotion. I explained to him that I only used the scented lotion on my hands and a bit in my hair and he insisted, then he told me it was vitiligo. It was 2nd degree burns from the sun due to other medication I was on, medication I'd told him about.

Ha, you think you got jacked. Since the derm was my first referral to a specialist for the year I paid a $200 copay plus $80 for my 20% share of his fee and I got some some sls-loaded prescription shampoo and told to take some vitamins with biotin. And that dang shampoo didn't do jack! On the plus side, they did run all kinds of blood tests and what not and it turns out I'm in excellent health.

Sucks, don't it?

I have the same issue and got the same response, but he also told me to take a supplement called Marlyn Formula 50 which is a super amino acid supplement.

I didn't know that having your tubes tied would have an effect on your hormone balance, I swear I learn something new everyday. With that being said a different type of doctor should be seen. I would suggest (myself included) to go to a Endocronologist or your OB. Even though they are not hair and skin specialist, if it is indeed metabolic they should be able to prescribe something because the hair loss is due to a hormone imbalance.

I have also been doing a lot of research for hair regrowth with Copper Peptides. I found a brand that specializes in CP that is used in conjunction with Minoxidil (Rogaine) and Emu Oil. It's kind of pricy but at this point I'm willing to try anything. I ended up cutting 6 inches of growth because my hair was thinning so bad. I already use Copper Peptide serum for my skin, so maybe there hope with my hair. Here is the link if your interested in checking it out. http://reverseskinaging.com/femalehairloss.html

That's why I hate going to to doctor. I prefer to consult a nutritionist or naturopath. Usually your body is trying to telling you something when there are things like that going on.

This is true...

Thanks for the link...

He also rec.'d Biotin.

Will the Minoxidil have an adverse effect on my retouch?

Same thing happened when I went to my derm. Go see a trichologist. Are you under stress? Are you overweight? Are you making sure to really get your scalp clean when you wash? Do not do Rogaine unless you plan to use it for the rest of your life and definitely only use it in your thinning area.

I'll be durned if i go to a doctor and they recommend OTC stuff.

I loved going to my derm cause she always gave me the drug lineup. That's what i pay insurance for. Drugs.

I'm using OLUX-E on my bald spot right now.

I went to my Derm, whom I love for hair loss and she told me the same thing. She did prescribe a steriod ointment to place on the spot 30 minutes prior to the rogaine but she prescribe rogaine. I was crushed. I did buy it but, that night, praise God, I got on LHCF and read about OCT/MT. Next day I went to a tack shop and picked-up MT and a week later I bought OCT. No looking back, hair is filling back in:drunk:

I decieded after reading about rogaine, it wasnt for me.

I've had this problem TWICE in past years. This is what I told to remedy the situation by military doctors.
The problem tend to occur in drier/humidity climates...even airplane flying or mountain climbing (two events that I did that triggered it). I have been natural for 20 years-so it definitely was not chemical abuse. I was given a steroid cream to combat the itches. I was also given two additional oils for my hair. One was a heavy coal tar/black castor oil solution that I was to use overnight. The other was a coal tar shampoo to wash out the oil in the mornings.

My edges had thinned and hair was actually falling out by the roots if you simply touched it. I was told to avoid TWO things....wigs, weaves, and hats. The hair was to get all the air/oxygen possible. I was also told to use a humidifier in my bedroom to speed the process.

This worked like a charm. By the way, this dermatologist mother had alopecia and he had researched treatments thoroughly for her. He also recommended two supplements which I can't really remember now.
