I see why a lot of ladies here have decided not to go to salons anymore. Especially for trims (scissor happy stylists). I got a touch-up on Saturday after a 15 week stretch. I go to a Dom shop for my relaxer cause I've tried self-relaxing in the past and let's just say if I want to reach my goals and actually have hair on my head it's best that I leave the relaxing to a professional!
Well I have a trouble spot in the back where my hair tends to break off. I noticed during my stretch that this was happening again. But I figured since I was air-drying for the last 3 months that it would not be that bad. And it wasn't but when you are all up in my hair it's noticeable. Especially after a relaxer cause now my hair is straighter and that area feels thinner. Well I didn't say anything about it cause I knew it was there already and I noticed her looking at it but she did not seem alarmed so I said "ok it's my normal breakage. Nothing to worry about now that I'm on LHCF I'm learning how to correct that". So we proceed with relaxing, DC, roller setting, etc. After she was done she said "Mami I'll give you a trim next time you come in". I just nod my head ok cause I really did not feel the need to explain that I'm not getting a trim next time. My ends are fine. And they are. Right now I don't care about blunt ends but rather healthy ends. Then she says for that area in the back I think "we" should do layers so that it looks fuller. Umm can anyone tell me how cutting the rest of my hair for one little area that's covered and buried underneath hair is going to fix my problem?? How about recommending a special conditioning process or maybe I should start start using the Nioxin line of shampoos and conditioners for thinning hair. Giving me a layered hair cut that will take ages to grow out is not the answer lady. I was too thru. Clearly she did not get the memo that I'm on a mission for healthy APL then BSL hair.
I've been a victim of a trim gone wrong where too much was taken off but I've been lucky to go to stylist that put me on the road to healthy hair. Never ever have I had someone recommend something so drastic. When I got home I asked my DH to look at the back of my hair and see if he noticed anything and he said no. So then I played around in my hair and uncovered the area and he said while he felt thin he didn't look thin and you can't see that patchy area unless you dig for it. I just needed a sanity check cause I thought maybe she was right for a second.
