i need your help...resistant split:(

i cut my hair down to Sl back in january 07 my hair grew out really fast... the only problem: nasty weird splits ( most of them devide the hair and start in the middle) and knots ,couple weeks later ( allthough i baggy and sleep with a silk scarf).
since my hair still grew out fast and did not look very uneven i just ignored the hair in the sink and didnt trim until 2 month ago.
the trim of course was a total waste because my hair is still infested with splits:wallbash: and everytime i comb my hair my sink is full. now i refuse to cut it again because 1. i dont want to lose all my progress 2. its seems as if doesnt make a differece anyways the spit always come back

i really dont know what is wrong with my hair:perplexed is it because it is natural and most of the time tangled...any suggestions? because i am fed up and soo fustrated.

ewwww sounds not so good.

to my unexpert ears it sounds like a combination problem with technique and perhaps with products.

what's your routine, how are you doing it and what are you doing it with (exact brand names please).

The only way to get rid of them is to cut. After you cut them stay on top of keeping the hair moisturized. Drinks lots of water and wash your hair more often.

i wash my hair once a week and DC with NTM deep mask and Le kair cholesterol ( switch weekly)
as a daily moisturizer i use "split mender" by beyond the zone and seal with castor or evoo i also wear 95% protective styles...and dont go to bed without my silk scarf
when i cut my hair to sl i took extremly care of my hair...but split came right back thats why refuse to cut it again:nono: im scared to lose my 1,5 year progress....

I found that when I started washing my hair several times a week it made my hair much more moisturized. I don't mean wash with using shampoo. I do somewhat of a modified cowash but I just put conditioner on my head and let it sit for at least 30 min. then rinse it out.

How much water do you drink? You need to make sure your hair is hydrated from the inside out. Most people don't drink enough water especially if you are taking vitamins.

That "split mender" is not mending your splits, nothing can do that but scissors. It may help keep what's not split moisturized but it's not doing anything for the splits you already have.

How often do you use heat, if any? Do you color?

Also, how do you wear your hair? Do you wash n' go often? I wore wash n' gos all the time last year, and suffered with knots all the while.

I know you don't want to cut, but that's the only way to get rid of the splits. You don't have to do a blunt cut, you can use the Search & Destroy method.

Just thought of something else...how do you detangle? Dry, wet, slathered in condish, etc? And with what kind of comb/brush?

slathered in conditioner i start off by combing my hair with my fingers and then continue with a shower comb ...every once in a while i also use my denman brush

Hey--are you using hair cutting shears? If you use regular scissors (i.e. scissors that aren't sharp enough) you could be just splitting your hair further up with them.

Baggying has been a bandit for some people. My hair hated baggying. Also when you do use heat, how and what are you using? (ex. flat iron, blowdryer, heat protectant, dominican blow out, etc)

I was going to mention the baggying too. Sometimes the excess moisture causes the cuticle to swell and split. How often are you using a protein treatment?

Are you cutting your hair yourself, or are you getting it trimmed professionally? Make sure that you are using shears, and that they have ONLY been used to cut hair. If you are trimming your hair with scissors that have been used for other things that can split your ends again when you try to correct them.
