I Need Your Help Ladies!

My friend just invited me to her pool party on thursday. I am terrified. When i started growing my hair out, I avoided the pool completely but last summer i gave in...BUT only when I had micro braids. I obviously don't have time to get braids or twists. Corn rows aren't attractive on me, so i don't know what to do!

my hair is this length:

Should I just do one big french braid? would that help with the tangling? Or maybe I'll just wear my hair down the entire time?...

Are there any products I could use before or after i jump in the pool? Do you have any helpful tips?

It has taken me so long to get my hair this long and healthy... :(

Are swim caps out? Chlorine is not good for most hair. Keep your hair out of the water and use a leave in conditioner if nothing else.

If you can wear a swim cap, do. Put a rich conditioner in your hair and braid it up (1 or 2 frenchbraids). Make sure they're secure. Then put the cap on.

If the cap is out, I would at least put a good conditioner in (or clear leave in as to not leave residue in the pool) and still french braid it. After you finish, I would shampoo & condition & do your regular regimen as soon as possible, so the Chlorine doesn't stay in your hair.

Can't think of anything else but I HTH. :)

I agree with the french braid idea. That's what my mom used to do to my hair when I went swimming. She used to put vaseline in it to protect it as well. I don't know how you'd feel about that, but it does provide a nice barrier between your hair and the chlorine :yep:

Vaseline? Hmm. That sounds like a good idea. I'll try that after applying leave in conditioner! I hope it's easy to wash out.

You can find shampoos and conditioners specifically for swimmers. Sally's carries Ion brand swimmers products. I usually apply a liberal amount of the swimmer's conditioner before hitting the water. It's sort of the same science as shampooing in that, shampoo can be drying and your hair can only soak up so much product. If you drench the last few inches and ends in conditioner or oil, you lesson the drying effect of the shampoo. So, same situation here, before getting into salt water or chlorine, you should saturate your hair with some product. I enjoy the Ion product because it's made for this activity. So, anyway dampen your hair slightly with water or a leave in, put on a good amount of the swimmer's condition and then do the braid to help keep tangles away. Remember to wash your hair out as soon as you can, even if it's just a clean water rinse until you can shampoo with the swimmer's shampoo. HTH - happy swimming! :) P.S.-I believe Walmart also has some swimmer's products, I don't know if it's Suave or what but I think I saw some there.

Wet your hair first with water, This way your hair wouth not soak up the chlorine then put in a thick conditioner or vaseline.

I read this same information in the paper the other day. I stay in FL so we always in the pool or at the beach.

hey just thought i'd put my two cents in.

i went on vacation recently and jumped in the pool and the ocean five times=five hair washings in a week.
I applied a good amount of ntm leave-in with my added evoo on my hair and slicked it into a pony.My hair looked good b4 i got into the water(ntm acts like a moisturizer ,not giving ur hair that weird wet look) and was really easy to finger comb once i got out.
Once i washed it i had super slip!!

On the plane ride back everybody was talking about how they were going to see the hair dresser as soon as they get back. Then they turned to me and said...well i guess u dont have to go ur hair is so shiny. That stuff is worth its weight in gold imo. :)

I am cosigning with Tamika completely. When I was younger, I swam a lot and I did this and my hair didn't suffer much.
