I NEED YOUR ADVICE!!!

Hi all. I am new to this site and I have spent the last couple of days reading some of the threads and responses. My hair is in trouble! I have lived in Florida for the past 9 years and before that I had a beautiful head of hair. The weather has damaged my hair severely. This past year has really taken a toll on my hair. I have type 1 hair...no body to it and it is fine and brittle. My ends look dry and warped. I can never wear any cute or different hairstyles because nothing can be done. I find myself having to curl or flat iron my hair every morning and I know this is adding to the damage. Any advice would be great. I have read lots about the co-wash method. Exactly what is that and how will it benefit my hair? Any remedies??? Any advice will help.

well, co-washing is basically washing your hair with conditioner the same way you would if you were using shampoo. as shampoos and its detergents are typically harsh on your hair and tend to dry the hair out. the co-wash method touts of restoring/retaining the much needed moisture in your hair.

type 1 hair? so you have straight hair with no curl/wave definition to it?

yes, heat on the hair is not good at all. try to incorporate some non-heat methods like roller setting, straw sets, briad outs, etc.

what do you see as the main issue with your hair? dryness? moisture?

ETA: from my research, type 1 hair is supposedly the most resilient and the overall "strongest"

hth!

I totally agree with this and I think cowashing is a good idea if your hair is needs lots of moisture.

I think my main concern is needing moisture. My hair continues to get drier and more brittle bu the wash. I am losing more hair now than I ever have before. My hair used to be long, strong and very shiny. I was a Pantene user. Now it seems like nothing works for my hair anymore. I would love to roller set my hair but the result would be disastrous. My hair is too fine to create a style. How often should I cowash and what product do you suggest?

I live in S. Florida and when my hair was severely damaged one thing I know I couldn't blame was the weather for the condition of my hair.

I agree with the other ladies on the co-washing. You may also have to baggy and moisturize your hair daily with S-curl. You may also have to consider wearing a wig, bun, or braids for a few months until your hair gets stronger. It may take a couple of months to turn your hair around. Stop the daily hot curling.

The Pantene line stopped working for you a long time ago. You need to switch to a moisturizing conditioner (I use Cream of Nature -green/white bottle), deep condition, and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Others may not agree but I would you some light protein too to help with the breakage.

Good luck

I'm no expert but CONDITION WASHING is the bomb, with the right conditioner, and is often the solution to many problems!!

Baggy? What does this technique consist of? With cowashing several timeas a week do you not blow dry your hair every time after?

Check your water.....you may be living in a hard water area. Hard water in itself can wreak havoc on your hair leaving it dry and brittle because of the mineral deposits.

baggy is putting a sandwich bag or shower cap on your hair for a few hours up to overnight. some people put product on their hair or in the bag. it is great for moisture, imo.

most people seem to use any cheapie (vo5, suave) for their co-washes, you have to remember that WATER is the BEST moisturizer, so if you feel that you are lacking moisture, than co-washing a few times per week might not be bad. DO NOT BLOW DRY YOUR HAIR (or use heat) FREQUENTLY if you want the condition of your hair to improve!!! but TAKE NOTE, baggying and/or co-washing doesn't work for everyone. i would suggest implementing a "trial" period for both and take careful note of the condition of your hair.

also, have there been any changes in your diet/overall health? this could also be contributing to your hair problem.

drink WATER!!!

these are just MY suggestions based on research and implementing certain things into my hair regime.
