tips and suggestions please....

I was thinking of Henna but I don't my hair to turn a reddy colour, also i have coloured ends so do not want any abrasive chemical/ other reactions

mY MOM correctly identified that although my hair grows faster than my sisters hers is stronger her hair is ultimately longer too. So i suppose if I got some strength going on, i'd be good to go...
TIA

You can use henna, just don't let the color release. If you mix it with room temp. water and apply it immediately, you won't get the color, just the conditioning benefits.

You could also use a protein treatment but I maintain that henna is a superior conditioner for coating the strands and fortifying them.

I didn't read all the other posts, so this tip may have been mentioned. Make sure you are not over conditioning your hair, this will make it mushy and weak. Some people benefit from protien treatments like aphogee or protien conditioner. I didn't like the aphogee treatment, it was to difficult to soften my hair after the treatment but many people have had positive results. Do some research on that maybe it will help. I am also BIG on vitamins. I take 2 multivitamins a day plus 2 calcium/magnesium/zinc pill a day. The difference was night and day may hair got stronger and my nails stop splitting. This should make a difference for you.

Thanks for the tip EHP. I have very weak hair too. I will give this a try.

I strongly second the recommendation of henna.
Henna is a 'cellophane' type dye, in that it doesn't CHANGE your hair color, it just puts a 'overlay' of red over your hair. Unless your hair is relatively light, the reddish color will show up as a 'sheen' rather than as a distinctive red color.
Also, if you use the appropiate type of henna, the fact that your ends have been dyed previously will not make a difference.

I know that the thread is HUGE, but I strongly suggest that you read this thread and take a note of the ladies AMAZING change in their hair. I plan on hennaing again this weekend, and I can show you a shot of my 'hennad' hair - and I put that in quotes because the color of my hair refuses to change - the darker the hair, the more subtle the change.

Protien treatments are another way to make your hair stronger - I don't know of any really good ones offhand, because henna acts better than any protien I've ever used - but I know the use of eggs, coconut oil, and commercial protien treatments are good to make hair stronger.

I think Ill incorporate this cuz my hair doesnt care for protein treatments for some reason. It makes my poor hair shed even more.:perplexed

Definately try ApHogee intensive Keratin (Red Bottle not the Blue)....I use it as a prepoo and follow up with Kera Care hyd detangling poo and Humecto... I'm now experiencing ZERO breakage since I started using it + it works really fast and leaves your hair soft.

SuperGirl has a wonderful thread on this called "My hair is a pillar of strength" do a search for it. All that I remember from reading that thread is that her hair is strong because she doesn't use heat.

Thank you all so much for the replies... Think I am going to try a henna treatment as soon as I take out this weave, when I go home for christmas :). anyone got any recs for a good henna product? Was thinking of going into the asian grocery store, im sure I sure some in there a while back. Anything I need to make sure it has or hasnt got in it??

Will definately incorporate eggs into my washing regimen.

I like the sound of the pre poo protein thingy, will have a look out for that also.

Thanks again ladies ;)

Just purcahsed some henna with indigo... looking forward to the results

recipes well much welcomed and more tips for strong hair :) ;)

is in indigo dye ok to use on relaxed/ coloured hair?

can you use indigo (safely) by its self?

yes, it's safe. yes, you can use it alone but the first time, I'd suggest using the henna as it allows the indigo to adhere to the hair better.

You can use pure indigo on relaxed/colored hair with no problem BUT indigo does not really have any conditioning benefits.

Most people use the henna for conditioning then use indigo afterwards to get the color they desire.
