I Need Help!

I have taken down many braids--mine and my daughter's. What worked best for us was washing the braids and applying cheap V05 moisturizing conditioner (and lots of it) directly to the braids. Leave it in and remove the braids in minutes rather than hours. The clean hair will have less build-up, therefore, less breakage and the V05 conditioner is super slippery, so the braids slide right out.

I prefer oils for this. My hair gets really tangled, so I even avoid the water in conditioner.
I second this. Oils provide lubrication and helps to break up any product build up. The build up glues the shed hair in there with the attached hair and makes tangling worse. Break up the build up and taking down your braids should be much easier.
