I recently joined Long Haircare Forum for the new year. I am very exited and worried about my new start. This website is very very addictive. Everyday for the past week or two I have been logged on the website trying to find the best regiment for my hair. I really really want to cut off all my hair and rock a short hair cut. But due to my big forhead I still need some hair on my head to cover my problem area from time to time. This website is very helpful but overwelming too. I am still trying to figure out the abbreviation for all the hair products. I am still confused as to what is the best hair products to use. I damn sure will never buy my hair products from the Chinese Beauty Suppy Store. I need help!!! I need to know where to buy my hair product from in Brooklyn NY, I need help with the best Shampoo and Hair Conditioners and the best Protein Conditioners for my hair too. I like Saleem 21 as a leave in but if someone thinks my hair will work better with something better please please let me know. I do not have any buddies to help me. I have thin neck length hair and I want shoulder length hair by June or mid July. I willing to do the right thing by my hair but I need some tips. Thank You:look:

Girlfriend, you're gonna have to spill the beans before we can begin to help you. In addition to the questions Te' asked...

Are you relaxed? natural?
How often do you relax? If applicable?
What caused the damage you speak of?
What shampoos, conditioners, products etc do you use on the regular?
How have you been wearing your hair? Weaved, ponytails, braids, flat-ironed, etc?
How much water do you drink?
How much heat do you use?
Do you have Pink Oil in your possession?

Thank You ALL

1) I have Relaxed Hair
2) I use Mizanni Sensitive Scalp
3) I had braids for the month of Oct., Nov and Dec 2007 and before that I always had thin hair and I would go to the hair salon every single week.
4) I wear my hair in loose very loose ponytails and I hardly ever wear my hair OUT, and I do not even own a flat-ironed – (my hair is TOO flat to iron) lol
5) I love reading about health and fitness on my down time so I drink at least 8 – 10 cups a water a day. I stay in the Ladies Room (Damn)
6) I like to roller set (green rollers) my hair every week with a deep conditioner – I used the Silicon Mix all the time and Crème of Nature - Usually the CON FOR VOLUME OR CON FOR MOISTURE when it’s time for a perm and
Salerm 21 for a leave-in Conditioner
7) And Yes I from time to time use Pink Oil or Razak for daily moisture
8) I take Multi Vitamin and Now iron and Fish oil Vitamins. Zinc, Biotin for a Year off and on…More on than off….
9) No I never really understood the whole Protein and Deep Conditioner but now I really really understand the difference
10) I perm my hair every 3 months…my hair would break off bad if I wait longer than 3 months. I have thin hair that will pop off quick when I need a perm…or maybe it due to the lack of Protein my hair was receiving. I do not know

I hope this anwser the question to help me on my quest for healthy long hair...Please Help....I know you all need a Pic but that will come soon!!! Thank You

:drunk: Hi there! Fellow Brooklynite here lol. Welcome to the board. You'll definitely find all the answers to your hair questions here, this place is sooo full of info. It can be overwhelming, so just take it one step at a time, do searches and ask questions and share experiences and you'll be a-ok!

As for BSS in Brooklyn, geez I dont know any off hand that are Black owned or just non-Korean owned... I do know the one I really like to go to is Downtown over on Fulton Street at the very end of the block near Flatbush Ave. It's downstairs from Lucille Roberts and past the old Galleria Mall. There's a guy named Jackson who works there who knows literally where EVERYTHING in that place is - he's a black guy, really cool. And they're pretty helpful there. Also you can now find a lot of good products at places like Rite-Aid, or Duane Reade, or even at Target - brands like Nexxus and some of the other brands mentioned on this board, so it just takes some looking around. There's also another BSS downtown I used to go to - over on Livingston off of Bond St - now across from IHOP. I think it's Middle Eastern folks who own that one. They're pretty good too.

From my opinion....Pink Oil SUCKS for moisture. I'm liking that Cantu Break Cure in a jar for moisture right now. It's light enough for my soft thin hair but it gets the job done! HTH!

I think you're talking about Hair Wig on Fulton and Flatbush.

Your regimen sounds pretty good aside from the Pink Oil. That stuff is the devil around here! Maybe you are having a problem balancing protein and moisture in your hair. Try the links the other ladies posted in this thread and it will get you on your way. Also, if you relax bone straight, maybe it's contributing to your thin hair. Think about texlaxing or adding oil to the relaxer creme to help slow down the processing. Also, are you neutralizing properly? Do you let the shampoo sit for 10 minutes before rinsing and repeating. And, do you live in an area with hard water? If so, you may want to invest in a chelating shampoo. It may explain the breakage your having, Just a thought...Good luck and HHG!

Definitely check out sistaslick's articles. i can't stress that enough. There are a lot fo them but you'll definitely learn a lot!

Welcome... Fellow Brooklyn person. Your regi sounds great except two things... Pink oil and Razac. They will bothe leave you with dry and crispy hair. you need to invest in some QP mango butter, Mizani rose H2O or Organic roots stimulator Olive oil moisturizer. Get some Porosity Control and Protien is great just not in excess. Good luck and HHG its very informative here. Enjoy. C
