When I need to clarify I use a strong ACV rinse. It doubles as a conditioner so it won't leave your hair feeling stripped or your scalp with that dried out feeling. I ACV, use my regulars shampoo (or not) then deep condition, etc.
I've said it once and I'll say it again. Lanza Deep Cleansing Shampoo. Its a really effective clarifier that doesn't strip/dry out the hair which is the only reason I re-purchase this time and time again.
Its got TEA sulfate which apparently is a comparatively gentler cleanser than other sulfates in clarifiers.
www.lanza.com has a store locater section to find where it is in your area or call them direct for samples which they're v.generous and quick to send out.
(Okay hair board, should I or should I NOT be getting commission from Lanza by now?
Well I've purchased and suggested Suave Daily Clarifying and I think it's great. But I have a problem. I want one those dosn't have sls als, etc...all of those harsh ingredients. But all of the shampoos that don't have those and that clarify seem to cost a million dollars. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

Is that really as effective? I had been thinking about trying it but it just didnt' seem like it would get out all of the gel and oils that I have been known to use

MIZANI PuripHying Shampoo is only $5.00 for 8 OZ. I love it. If you can;t find it at one of your local bbs try a JC Penny's salon at your mall.

It works! i was skeptical at first when i first heard that tip(i forgot where) but i tried it and it worked real well. sometimes i may just do a baking soda rinse just like i would do an acv rinse just add some of the powder to water and pour over head before or after shampoo it really helped get out the residue especially with all the gunk i put on my hair. Besides im cheap and 50 cents for a box of generic brand baking soda is cheaper than a clarifying shampoo. i tried vo5 clarifying shampoo in the past and it made my hair real brittle. if u dont like the baking soda trick i suggest use the suave clarifying its also cheap and effective
I clarify once a month usually. Every once in a while, I clarify twice a month. How much build-up my hair has (I go by feel, dullness of my hair, and whether my standby products aren't as effective) determines when I clarify. Some people clarify more than monthly or bi-monthly, though. Hope that helps!
I am a big fan of Dr. Bronner's aloe vera baby mild castile soap. There is no SLS, no artificial ingredients, no fragrance, and it isn't tested on animals. It is also inexpensive and very cleansing and it does not leave your hair feeling like straw.
