so i think i wanna color... i'm missing black hair :(

so my problem is this... before i started my haircare thingy, i always used dark n lovely in the blue black shade... it was the only one that gave me the deep color that i liked and didn't strip my hair in the process... but now i'm sorta scared of it...

can anyone recommend a hair coloring product that can produce the nice DEEP blue black but isn't quite as damaging... and a rinse won't do... it has to be permanent color... (although, the last time i colored my hair, the color went away despite the fact that it was permanent)...

TIA!!!

Well you could either indigo ( I know you like to use henna) or you can bigen.

hmm... to be on the side of the cost conscious, i'd go with bigen first.. but does it do the deep blue black color??

Well I am not sure about the blue black. I did the oriental black, and that is pretty darn black. Keep in mind, the color of my hair prior to coloring was that ugly reddish brown color (yuck---i looked like a mouse and I HATE mice:ohwell: ) Be sure that is what you want thought because that bigen is not going to come out. I did my color in November and it has not lost any intensity whatsoever.

Sorry to hijack, but....

Can I just say "WOW!" Your siggie is inspiring to a newbie like me! :) All that hair in under 2 years?? What did you do??? I'm a 4b. Is it possible for a 4b to obtain results like that?

awesome.. i'm sold!!.. bigen it is!!! (for me, the darker the better... i think the reddish hair can be pretty, but i just truly love darker than dark hair)....

aw thank you!!... i'm sure you can, it's just about finding what works for you... in my case, it was daily cowashing, lots of moisturizing and protective styles when it got long enough...

I bought some Oriental Black today because they didn't have the blue black. Post how it goes for you!

okeydokey - so i went out to walmart last night and bought the bigen blue black.... i ended up mixing two of the bottles but i probably used liked 1 1/3's worth...

the application was no messier than any other hair color, although next time, i'll probably buy an applicator bottle and put it in there.... i more or less followed the directions and then followed the whole rinsing out with a deep condition... soooooooooo below is my hair color before and now after...

oh, and i dont know if it was the hair color or the fact that i'm 14 weeks post but i had a LOT of shedding when i was detangling in the shower after all of this.... we're talking knots and whatnot... that, i don't like... :( ... but overall, i love the color... i can't wait to see it after a blowout...

It looks pretty! Sorry you got those knots and tangles though. Please post the blowout pics too:grin:. I love your hair;).

I wouldnt suggest buying an applicator bottle. The mixture is supposed to be more on the thick side and it will not come out all that well. Well at least that is my experience. I would just use a mixing bowl and a dye brush for the best results. Keep in mind I did this once with out the brush and I did miss a few spots. Oh WELL

I looks pretty :yep: But, I am such a big stalker:lol: I wanna see the pixs too:D

It looks soooooo nice! I love black hair, but my family HATES it on me. My great grandmother and my great aunts have made it a point to ask me "why would I do something like that to my hair" every time I've colored my hair black in the past. But I'm just gonna have to do me on this whenever I find the courage to color.

SqrpioQutie, quick question. Did you have a lot of shrinkage as a natural?

thanks guys!!.. i'm thrilled with the color... but, as previously mentioned above, i definitely missed a few spots.. i think that was because i'm not used to dying my hair while it's curly... maybe when i do the blowout, it'll just look like natural highlights or something... lol

How soon after Bigen can you relax?

hmmm i have no idea... maybe that'll force me to wait at least 4 more weeks before i retouch... i hope someone has the answer to that...

oh yeah, shrinkage city... even now, with being texlaxed, i get a lot of shrinkage... fully airdryed with no manipulation, my wash n gos are barely shoulder length... blown out, i'm probably an inch or two from bsl...

You can actually relax, and then bigen. Mars Reiko had successful results. I believe Cathy Howse talks about it in her book also.

so then the reverse shouldn't have any adverse effects then right??... i wonder though, will it fade my color any??... ponder ponder ponder...

I love love love the color...forgot to mention that. RE: the relaxing, that is my concern too...hmm maybe I will be forced to stretch a bit, I want to do this tomorrow. So you needed two bottles, and you followed the directions exactly?

i mixed it according to the directions... i didn't really apply it that way but that's because i have no patience for parting and such... i'll say this much, i'll never doubt bigen again... lol...

ok so i did the touchup today... all i can say is, comedy of errors... lol

1. i apparently didn't wash the bigen out as well as i thought, so my scalp was itchy in some places... so i scratched... no big deal to me since i normally scratch up until the day of my touchup cuz i never burn...

2. i should never say never... cuz that mess certainly "tingled" today... i don't know if it was just the scratching or the scratching plus the bigen, but i definitely have some spots on my scalp that are a little tender...

3. my hair is a bit dry this time around now... i'm thinking it's the bigen since i've used this relaxer for a while now and i don't normally get this result... although i didn't do a deep conditioner afterward (i was in a rush) so maybe that will help..
