I just can't take it anymore!

Ok, so I haven't had a relaxer since October, not because I'm transitioning, but because I cannot afford to get one at the salon... So, my mother suggested that I just learn to do it myself. I'm a bit skeptical. I also need to trim my hair. Are there any tutorials for relaxing & trimming and could you all please tell me what NOT to do.

There's a self-relaxing support thread around here, just search for it, it should come up. It has a lot of tips about what to do, what not to do, relaxing in halves, practicing (use conditioner to practice not getting it on your scalp and timing yourself). Oh and there was a thread on self-trimming a few days ago, search for that one too.
