I Have Turned to the Dark Side!!!!!!!!!

Ok after a year and a half of being natural, I permed my hair yesterday. I did not go natural because I had any bad experiences or anything just wanted to try it. Maybe I am too lazy, but after being permed for most of my life, I have never had to do my own hair. This past time I have been doing my hair and let me tell you it has sometimes been good and sometimes been bad. If I could have found a pretty reasonable natural hairstylist to do my hair, I probably would have stayed natural forever. I just dont have the time or the energy to do my own hair :(. I like the fact that on a weekly basis I can go and let someone else do my hair. I usually wear it in a wrap or a "granny bun" [as my husband calls it], it is low maintenance for me. Between full-time work, full-time parenting of six kids and full-time school, I am wondering how I made it this long!

So for me it is off to a new adventure!! I will post pics of my new perm soon. Thanks for listening

I know exactly how was for you girl...I was natural for 2 years and then I had to give it up because it took too long to style my hair myself and way too much out of pocket to get it done by someone else. It was lovely to be able to only come my hair twice a month but I've had bad experiences like having pulled out my hair to get it done to go out that same night and the person to do it had an emergency and could not comb it for me which so screwed up my plans.

girl, i feel you on the natural stylists!!!! it is damned rediculous how much they charge for simple stuff!!!! they were trying to charge my mom $85 for some two strand twists and her hair is barely to her shoulders!!!!

lord!!! you have a lot on your plate!!! yeah, you dont need to add hair styling to alladat der!!!

I truly understand I was natural for two years. When I was planning my wedding I decided that I wanted to perm my hair again....

It's okay. Don't see it as you turning to the dark side. As long as you are taking care of your hair in a way that's suitable for you, go for it!!! :yep:

Happy hair growing!!! Take care and be blessed!!! ;)

I understand completely. I like being able to wash and comb my hair with absolutel ease on a daily basis. I like being able to smooth it back into a sleek bun and be on my way. I tried being natural for a few months after I had transitioned with braids. I gave it up after going on vacation and being in a hurry and trying to quick comb my hair. It wasn't working. I took a lot of hair out that day. With a relaxer I don't have those types of worries or problems.

GOod lawd!! You have alot on your plate!!! Welcome back to the creamy crack as Champagne said!! Six kids you are a trooper!!

When you said "the dark side" I thought you were talking about going from being a blonde to a brunette!

Being relaxed is not the dark side. I did the same thing for some of the same reasons. For some people, having natural hair is more work than having relaxed hair. do what is best for you and yourlife style.

me too! from brown to black

Congrats on your choice lbellin, do what is best for you and your hair health!

I thought you had recently gotten your hair done at Curve though...a silkener? (maybe I have confused you).

The thought of going natural never crossed my mind. I'm just too lazy these days and I have a hard time with my new growth as it is.

Girl don't feel bad. Sometimes I am so tempted too. I have 4 kids, 2 home businesses, in the guard, school full-time and a military husband so I know how you feel. I guess I just love being able to go back in forth. Right now I am rocking braids but as this stuff gets longer, a relaxer is becoming more and more tempting. Take care Q

Oh and my hat is off to you with the 6 kids!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all thanks to all of you for the encouragement. I kind of felt guilty that I could not continue to be natural. I enjoyed it, but with everything going on I just don't have the time and energy for it. Also the fact that I have always had someone do my hair, I never developed creativity in the way of styles. So trying to make my hair look fresh or stylish was not working.

Yes ThursdayGirl, I was featured on the website for Curve. No, I didn't get a silkener, I just had them shingle me hair. I was going back and forth whether or not to silken [texturize] or just full out relax. I decided to just relax. #1 it is a lot cheaper. LOL !!! Like I said before I never had any bad hair experiences that made me go natural, I just wanted to be natural. So I look forward to joining you guys in the quest for having long hair. I will post pics on Monday, cuz I won't be taking the pins out of my wrap until then. Considering that I have been natural since Sept. 03 and I have had several chops during the past year and change, it has grown alot. Also, Miko at Curve can cut some hair. My hair falls beautifully with the relaxer, nice and full. But you guys can check out tomorrow and let me know what you think. :)

Girl, don't feel bad... Ain't nobody gonna do you but YOU! You definitely have my props for taking care of SIX kids. I feel like my ONE is a full time job in itself. I can't wait to see your pics!

I agree don't think of it as going to the dark side. I personally am doing the opposite of what you are doing. I am going back to natural. So we are switching places I have only had a perm for about 1 year 1 month.

Good luck on your new perm!!!

Remember because you have not been relaxed for a while it may not burn at all. Can't wait to see your pics.
