I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong.
Ok most of you don't know, but I am in the Military, the Air Force to be exact. You all know I have a TWA. Well on Thursday mornings we have PT at 6:45. When I wake up I just take off my scarf and roll. Sometimes, and I know this is bad, I don't wear a scarf and I still just roll out. Well today I was talking to one of my friends that happen to be a SMSgt. He asked me what am I going to do with my hair b/c some of the men in the Squadron have been complaining about my hair at PT. My hair is in regulation, so there should be nothing said. We can not wear scarves with our PT uniform, I used to wear a scarf to PT before these new uniforms became mandatory. Now the SMSgt was not getting on me telling me I need to do something, but just informing me of what was being said about me in the sqaudron. He told me that he told the men, that they have nothing to say, as long as my husband lets me out the house looking the way I do, they should have nothing to say about it. I am MAD:mad:

If your hair is within military regulations, these men need to shut the h*** up.
When they start coming to your house in the morning to pick out your hair, or maybe start paying for your haircare, then those morons can have something to say.

I second that! I'm sorry Michiko I know you're mad. But like womanlycharm said you are in regulation. Those men have their nerves!!!

That is how i feel! They not helping me. not are they paying for me to get my hair done. During the week and day I usually have a head band on so that do can't see my edges, i don't wear it at the gym b/c i don't want it to get sweaty.

They kinda hurt my feelings and this is BLACK men saying this.

Ditto. I hate ignorance.

To the OP, I am sorry you have to deal with such imbeciles. I admire your strength and your courage for your chosen profession, and how your hair looks should be the last thing they should be concerned about.

Oh girl I was about to ask you if they were black men...That then really pissed me off now!

Well, from my personal experiences, sometimes it's your own race that tries to hurt you the most. I remember that before I had a relaxer, when I was in elementary and middle school it was ALWAYS the black kids who picked on me. A lot of us think it's the white man who is continually holding us down, but we do it to ourselves a lot more than some will care to admit.

This is so true.

it pisses me off b/c you are my own race you should try and hold me up. Ask me what style i am going for with my hair and when I tell you b/c ALMOST everyone should know by now that I am trying to grow it out. Even if I was keeping a TWA then say Oh and keep it moving. Now I know my hair is not shaped up b/c I am really not trying to cut my hair. I notice the less I was and manipulate it the more growth I have. Just so i don't have to hear their mouth, i comb it out in the morning :( .

Girl don't even let them guys get to you. I am in the Army and when I was in Germany I had this SFC female that would come looking for me every week to see how I had my hair so she could run and tell someone in my chain of command. I am all natural. My hair wasn't long enough for a ponytail. Every week I would change my hair. She would always find something wrong with it. I stopped caring. I purposely did big and wild styles just so she could say something. She was jealous because I was making big money doing everyone else hair but hers. She was always stuck in the same ponytail with the thinning edges and metal clips everywhere cause her hair was very uneven and dry from gel. It will get better. i am about to get out next month and lately there have been some hating females in the unit. I ignore because I am creative with my hair and it is longer then theirs. Petty I know. Just laugh it off. I wonder how some of those guys in your squad wife hair look. Probably like crap:lachen:

Some of them are married to Non AAs. And some of them do look like crap lol. Every black woman i see i try and hook them up with my stylist

I'm mad too!! The nerve. From your pics, your hair looks nice and neat. Men can be such...#$!# Sometimes they have all THE WRONG things to say about things THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. I'm sure if you took the time, you could find several things to complain about them but they are not worth it. Just keep pressing forward. Hang in there, hon. Sorry for such a crappy thing being said to you.

Not to start nothing but that doesn't surprise me...I am a newly napptural and patiently waiting for some of our bruhs (and I use that term losely cause I am not feeling at all fraternal right now) to pull themselves together.

On a side note...I was in the ROTC and wore braid the entire time so that I stayed in regulation...as soon as I got out I put some cornrows in my head quick.

Does the hubby like the napptrual? Is he in the military too?

I think you TWA looks really cute by the way...but please help the gurly out and at least spray her in the morning...especially if aren't wearing a scarf at night cause you know she's dry...and no likes to be dry:lachen:

Those men are just ignorant. Do they expect you to have silky Rapunzel hair flowing down your back during PT or something??? How is your hair "bothering" them??? (well, your hair probably looks better than theirs, HA!) As long as you are in regulation, go ahead and do your thing. I'm sorry you have to deal with such stupidity.

It is a shame that they have to focus on your appearance rather than the job you are doing. You are at work, not the club. I agree with you and would be extremely insulted. Even the dude who so called "stuck up for you" was weak with the whole if her husband lets her out looking like that....man please, keep your comments to yourself.

I am sure he knows that telling you is going to hurt your feelings and is probably hoping that it will get to you enough that you make changes. Bump them, do what you have to do. If you are unhappy or are looking for options that is one thing, but dont let those haters bring you down. If you are worried about your edges as you are growing it out, you can get a workout headband that you dont mind getting sweaty or one of those cloth headbands from the bss. But that is only if YOU feel like you should. Punks.

You got me  just reading this.

I agree with what he had to say tho they aint your men and you by no means need to look good in their eyes u only need to please yourself.
I think fear of this is the reason I have trouble wearing my hair natural at times, even tho no1 has said something like this to me its more like I feel it can happen. Today did a wash and go and I am actually proud of myself slowly but surely learning to love my hair. my man is fully supportive of my big hair and honestly I am beginning not to care what others think.
I suggest you jus go even wilder in regulation and jus stare them down and if they keep it up ask them what their problem is straight up because no1 else seems to have a problem with it, also note u don’t have time/energy to worry about all the things u don’t like about them.

 Since when did it become YOUR job to be THEIR eye candy? Are you stopping them from doing THEIR job?

On another tangent, I could see if you were a dayumm stripper and they were paying you to dance and you had on shoddy clothes, messed up hair, couldn't dance, etc., but hell, you're trying to come and do your job and not bothering anybody and this is what they have to say?????? (I know that analogy was a little far out there, but you get where I'm coming from)

As long as you're in regulation, DO YOU!!

Awww man, flashbacks!!! The military (especially the Army IMO) has always had a problem with black hair. They're just jealous because they have to wear those buzz cuts and we keep our hair up! I remember seing some sistah's hair and wondering how in the world did she get that french roll in her bdu cap (before we switched to berets)! The trick? Buy a bigger cap/beret:grin: The Army is the reason I lost all my hair! I decided to go red one time so I dyed my hair and spent $200 on matching microsbraids. Well I knew I looked cute! My First Sergant was hating and said my hair color wasn't in regulation. So, being me, I told him to show me the regulation (why I never lost rank I dunno, I think it's because my Squad Sergant (I miss Sergant B:() always had my back, poor guy was always in the FSG's office for me:grin: Well the regulation said it had to be a "natural" hair color. I told him I couldn't take out my braids, so he told me to dye over them. I did but it din't come out brown. Well I got threatened with losing my rank and had a daughter to take care of, so I ended up dying it 2 more times...still not brown. They made me take out my micros! Well, when I took them out, I decided to touch up my NG. African Pride...will never touch that relaxer again! When I rinsed, my previously relaxed hair went with it leaving me with about an inch and a half of straight hair!!!

Then I got mad! They wanted a "natural" color ey?:look: Ok, they got it...BLEACH BLONDE!:lachen: I started an uproar in my unit (I was popular:p) and got all the girls to dye their hair a "natural" color. My blonde and red head friends went jet black, and dark haired girls went blonde.:lachen:We really made them angry! So long story long:look:, they changed the regulation to say the color has to look good on the person's complexion, so sistahs can now wear red hair in the Army! Who said one angry black woman can't change thangs???:lachen:

The Army is all about conformity and tries to blot out any individuality. Well my Bible says I'm not to conform to this world! So glad I'm out!

My hubby was in the same squad as me (I used to make him do all my work for me:look:). Can you believe after all that, the man still married me??? He knew what he was getting himself into and signed up anyway 'cause I got it like that! :lachen:

So in conclusion, don't sweat it, just get pregnant and get out like I did!:lachen:

Girl your posts be cracking me up!!! :lachen::lachen::lachen:
But on a sidenote what a way of changing things! You go girl!!

He interntionally tried to hurt your feeling. I looked at you album and your hair looks good (the band picture is really cute). It's sad that they have nothing better to do than the talk about your hair. I wouldn't dwell on it to long, they have issues with themselves.

You are a trip. Look at her shaking up the military.

Nothing should have been said about her hair. It amazes me why people are so concerned about stuff that doesn't concern them. I bet their mostly mad because she ain't flopping in there face and they know they can't have her. Stay strong sista rock that fro.
