I have to get a drug test and they are going to cut a patch of hair from the root. /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif I am so PO"D you could not imagine. They say it isn't much but I think that this is too invasive and what gives them the right to think that they can just come in and chop a piece of someones hair off that they are desperatly trying to grow /images/graemlins/angry2.gif? I am mad, thanks for letting me vent!

Do you think that I am overreacting?

I am mad for you. I can't imagine my job asking to cut out a patch of my hair. What they heck do they need a hair sample for? Why not just do the urine drug test?

Thanks you guys It really seems like they are taking this too far. I asked if I can take a urine sample it was vetoed apparently this is the type of test that more companies are going for. I guess these test are more accurate.

I called the hospital and she said that they take it from the middle so you don't notice but I still think it's too much to ask someone to submit to. I'd rather a urine test anyday. I bet they get my DNA and try to do some type of experiments with it.

It's a difference when doing testing through hair. I'll have to ask my chemist friend (who knows the details).

I have family in law enforcement and they say that the hair test can tell if you have used in the last 30 days or more. I have heard this is how they are testing criminal offenders or those out on parole now but I've never heard that they are doing this type of test for emloyment. I also didn't know they cut a patch of hair instead of pulling a few strands from the root.

I gave a hair sample for my friend like four years ago. DON'T ASK, I know I was wrong, haha
They didn't take that much hair! They cut it from the root too, very close to the scalp /images/graemlins/blush.gif I could barely find were they cut my hair days later...
They do it because drugs can be detected in the hair for up to 3 months.

You also may want to ask them to take the smallest amount of hair possible to get what they need. Many times labs take extra sample incase the test comes back funny and they want to double check or run it again. I know in the hospital I work, they sometimes ask for these ridiculous amounts of blood to run a test on sometimes really small babies and we usually call down and ask them what is the least amount they could get away with doing a test.....they usually tell us something way lower than what they asked for in the first place.

I've done this the lady said she had to fill the paper which was a 1 inch square, but I really wanted the job, after all it will grow back...you either wanna work or you don't it's not like they're shaving it all off...

I had to give a hair sample before and the woman asked me what part of my head did I want her to cut hair from. I chose the nape area. The men were giving sample from their arms, legs, and underarms. But if they had hair on their head then that is where they took the sample

It wasn't all that bad. She took about ten hairs from different spots instead of taking one big patch. I can't even find the spots. I still didn't like the idea of it but it's over now. Thanks for your support ladies. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
