I was wondering if braiding your hair with extensions actually makes it grow, because for some reason I don't understand how it does if it does. Can someone please put me on about this

In my opinion, people confuse something that "makes your hair grow" with something that helps you maintain the growth that your getting. Assuming that the extensions don't break your hair off, they give your hair a rest from daily manipulation, reduce your hair's exposure to the elements, and let you see signs of growth. I don't think that they have any effect on actual growth rate.
