I hate rhassoul

Ladies. be warned. I hate Rhassoul clay. After babying my hair for 3 years it grew to a thick, u shaped past bra strap length with no problems. I was using natural products mainly.

Until.

I tried Rhassoul clay.
The first 3 days past treatment were wonderful, my hair was very defined.
Then, the nightmare began.

One month of babying it has passed and I am still here with overly porous hair. I need to use tons of conditioner and it just evaporates, and it takes ages to dry now. It feels extremely rough as well.

I am going to try something new: I'm going to sleep overnight with AO GPB and wheatgerm oil and see what happens. Any suggestion will automatically make you my hero if you have any idea.

I really hope this is only temporary.

Have you tried roux porosity control yet?
How about baggying?
When my porosity was seriously off this is what fixed the situation for me.

HTH and Good Luck.

that happened with me...except with the bentonite clay.
i used conditioners and extra acv rinses.

BTW..the porosity control...did nothing for my hair.

This is part of the reason why I do strand tests on my hair before I try something which I have never tried before... really am sorry to hear about your experience though.

I was going to suggest a protein treatment (helped me with my porosity) but that's what you're planning to do. I think you should go for that and do it at least once a week, hopefully your hair will get back to how it used to be! Good luck ^^

never tried porosity control but I will look for it tomorrow, thank you! I do baggy but I will increase it to every night to see if it works. I happen to have some ACV in the meantime though...

@fatimablush , this is the first time I hear about this effect from clays, sorry to hear you had to experience the same thing, do you feel like it went back to its previous state at some point? (or did it feel like permanent damage?)

KumakoXsd, thank you, I promise I will never experiment without a strand test from now on, what a trauma... I hope my beloved GPB saves me

hothair YEAH, please don't ever touch that stuff LOL

it is only temporary...
i did a protein treatment but i have done more moisturizing. i have been using oil rinses and leave ins that i used before.

i will save the rhassoul and bentonite for my face.

TEMPORARY, the magic word... I am starting to feel better... thank you so much. My face loves rhassoul (with honey), so at least it won't get thrown away.

BAD RHASSOUL! YOU BAD GUY RHASSOUL!

(lol sorry just a vent)

MEMO: RHASSOUL rhymes with FOOL and BENTONITE rhymes with KRYPTONITE

^^
I mixed mine with water...it was storming day and i didn't feel like going to the store.
my sister did her mix and everything was fine with her hair.

she said when she mixes hers again she will give me a little to test on my hair..

DesignerCurls Only filtered water. I rinsed and deep conditioned with my usual Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose. I guess different hair has different needs... I did have a look at many threads and blogs before trying and everyone seemed to love it, so this time it was totally unexpected.

Yes I have learned the same thing Curlykale. I'm glad you and your hair are starting to feel better! :yep:

fatimablush I mixed the clays with coconut milk and horsetail/marshmallow teas. But that bentonite is super strong. Also I had to switch to putting my mix in a glass bowl instead of the aluminum/tin one that I was using...metal and clay don't mix :nono: ask me how I know! lol

i did that too..

i have some coconut milk. my sister ordered some more of the marshmallow tea and something else...so i am going to try it again...

I'm not sure the bold part describes porous hair. Porous hair dries really fast.

Feeling rough could be a sign that you have porous hair, but I wonder if it couldn't also be a sign of just your hair being uber dry and what you're feeling is hard hair, rather than rough strands.

If you have low porosity hair, it may feel like you need lots of conditioner for it to feel right since it is not easy for products to penetrate the hair. Low porosity hair also takes forever to dry.

Wow Nonie your point completely changes my perspective! I never considered low porosity... Yes, it is very difficult to recognize rough from uber dry. I will check again how it behaves when I am air drying and will definitely keep in mind what you are saying, especially with productless hair since it is difficult to tell what is happening when hair is constantly saturated with product (I always leave in a lot of conditioner, and that may increase the air drying time consistently). Thank you SO much!
