I had a feeling this was going to happen...

I regret my last 2 relaxers. I would be so far along into my transition if I had started last year. In 06 I did two 6 month stretches. Now I don't know what I really want to do because I've achieved some pretty good length.

Good luck with continuing your transition and please be sure to take plenty of wet & dry pictures. You're inspiring me to do this transition thing too. I'm still on the fence.

Oh and those babies are soooo beautiful. You're very blessed!

good luck with transitioning ...that braidout pic that you have in your album looked like natural hair. I cant wait to see the outcome!

PLEASE.....for the life of me, don't go near any scissor anytime soon. I need to prepare myself for this. What am I going to do???? Okay see I got a plan, when you cut it off, just send it to me. I will then glue it in my head and everyone will be happy. Yeah that will work.:lachen: :lachen:

P.S. Congrats on taking the time to discover your real texture.:)

I love your hair, its soooo beautiful, and I could just imagine how your natural hair would look, congrats chica in your decision whatever that maybe, as I read on another post you do not want to be 65 yrs getting a relaxer lol,

I'll be watching you like a hawk because I'm considering going natural as well.

My last self relax led to a little breakage (nothing major) but I'm thinking why not just let my hair do what it's going to do?

I don't have a spiritual reason either....just considering it after looking at those gorgeous waves in a few fotkis and siggy pics.

GL to you!

Is it possible to transition AND retain your length because I'm definitely not doing a bc.

Thanks for the support ladies.

I definitely plan to transition for awhile because I don't want to lose my length.

MM, my only reason to relax woud be to get to waistlength. My reasons for not relaxing would be because now that I'm actually seeing my natural hair, which I've never seen, I just don't feel right relaxing it. I can't really explain it. I still would like to wear straight styles, but I want both worlds.

I believe that you can have the best of both worlds!:)

While it's clear where my loyalties are, I speak from a pressure-free space. I think every girl/woman should experience their hair in their natural state at some point in their life, esp. if they have not ever seen/known/experienced their natural hair in a conscious (aware) place.

Whatever the outcome, you can't lose, you can only win!:)

Congratz and good luck with your decision! Just be careful with the heat. I transitioned for 8 months and ended up with heat damage trying to maintain a straight style during it all. Roller sets and twists outs are your friend. :)

Congrats on your "almost-decision" :) Your hair thrives so well relaxed so you can only imagine how well it will thrive with no chemicals! Many of the ladies on this board have proved that long transitions are possible, so WL is still within your grasp!

Congrats again!

ETA: gorgeous hair!!! I definitely drool over it often!!!

Yes, let's do this together! We'll need to think up some goals and stuff and keep eachother accountable. Great idea DG!

Thanks ladies!

i will pm you. YAY! i am getting excited again about this "going natural" thing!!!

Congrats on your decision to transition! I remember at the 5 month transition mark for me, I made the decision to big chop cuz I couldn't deal with the 2 textures.

You have beautiful hair!! Can't wait to see more pics of your journey.

I think I'm transitioning. I've been on this natural texture challenge for 5 months, and I am at a crossroads right now.

My original plan was to get to waistlength, chill there for a few years, then go natural. Well, now that I have 5 months worth of newgrowth, I'm not sure I want to relax it. I don't think it's anything deep or spiritual or anything, I just think I'm going to do this sooner rather than later. I like what I see and I want to see more. If I relax again, I take the chance of going through the scab thing all over again (I believe what I'm seeing now is my pure, unaltered hair, rather than the rough stuff that I used to see).

My dh is supportive and told me to do what makes me happy, and that I will be beautiful no matter what, so that's not an issue.

I can't honestly say that I'm 100% sure about this, but I'm going to do it anyway. I'm not telling anyone outside of this board.

My plan is to continue to rollerset my hair and flat iron the new growth. I'll do this until I can't do it anymore, then I'll do buns or something. Ok, maybe I don't have a plan.:lachen:

Anyway, just wanted to let my hair family know. If you have any advice or anything, I'm listening!

Whew, that was hard.:look:

Just go with the flow. Don't stress coz there's nothing to stress about. Keep it simple coz less is more when it comes to natural hair (but then again that's my philosophy for all hair). I don't know what your philosophy of products is but IMO natural is always preferred. Enjoy the ride. :)

Good for you! I wish I had the nerve and patience to do this. 14 wks post was enough for me, but I'm just loving the natural heads that I'm seeing. And to whoever said that relaxers seem to be a thing of the past is right. I'm seeing natural head everywhere.

Thank you, Mook's hair! I sooo feel you. I was thinking about how I wouldn't want to go through another stretch and then relax, and then keep doing that all over again.

I do plan to put lots of pics in my album.

That's an awesome way to look at it, and very encouraging. Thank you!:D

I have a question. What does heat damage on natural hair look like? I would hate to be damaging it and not even know until it's way too late!

umm you'll know  If my hair was heat damaged my hair would have no curl pattern and it would break easily.

I'm with you. I'm an "accidental" transitioner too..haven't relaxed for a year and now it doesn't look like I'm going to. I am at APL stretched and my last relaxer underprocessed anyway, so I don't ** really** have a line of demarcation. I don't plan on BC'ing, ever.

you and your hair (natural or relaxed) are both beautiful...you do not have to have it all figured out right this minute. do what makes you feel good about yourself. that is so sweet that your hubby supports whatever...i love that. :)

but if you just BC one day, it sure will break a lot of hearts...

Yall have me dying over here! Don't worry though...no sink pics! No large hairballs.

MissMarie is my transition inspiration. She has been transitioning for 3 years. She has a new stalker now.:D

After thinking some more, I'm CERTAIN I want to reach my waistlength goal, so we'll see how this rollersetting thing goes. Flatironing my roots has been extremely easy these past few months. Oddly enough, the flat ironed natural hair looks a lot better than my flat ironed texlaxed hair.

  I missed this thread, but that is hilarious.

I definitely understand what you mean when you say the flatironed hair looks better. I don't understand it either but my roots from the time I relaxed 1/4 of my hair looks much better while the relaxed hair looks less moist or healthy for some reason.:perplexed

Congrats on your decision L.
I'am sure you'll be fine... do you btw have pics of your NG?:D
Please keep us updated how it goes,if I ever transition(sooner or later) I would love to do it without doing a BC.
So if that would be possibly for type 4 hair I'd be ecstatic.

I refer to this thread on NP every once a while as the difference is so striking.

Wow! Thank you. I definitely don't want that! Thanks, Ayeshia! (Love your hair, btw)

Thanks again, ladies. The support here is amazing! I feel like I can do anything (*cue sappy music*):D

Ella I'm going to put some more pics of my NG in my fotki soon. I want to document this completely!

I wish you all the best during your transition, Lauren! Your hair will be gorgeous no matter what.

Funny you posted this thread, because I'm tinkering with the idea of transitioning myself.:look: I'm 13 weeks post, and I had planned to touch-up last weekend, but got too busy to do it. Now I really don't feel like bothering with the relaxing process anymore:lol: . Keep us posted on your progress, you might inspire me to go ahead and do the da*n thing!:D

Congrats! Whatever you decide your hair will be beautiful.
I never did a big chop either, so with pound of pound of moisture and a ton o patience, you don't have to bc.
