I got 2 compliments on my hair today!

One from a woman and one from a man. The only thing I did different was...adding unrefined coconut oil to my hair while it was damp. The guy said my hair looks like (his words exactly) a hair commercial.

The coconut oil is a keeper /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Hey Crysdon...where can I get this unrefined coconut oil /images/graemlins/look.gif??

Kia,

I bought mine from the neighborhood health food store. I got the Spectrum Organics brand. You can get any brand...just make sure that it is the unrefined, organic kind.

I'm 5 weeks into my last touch-up and this oil not only straightened my new growth, but made it shiny as well.

I had to order mine via online because its always gone at wholefoods before I can get it! I can't wait to try it! I'm glad to hear another positive view on coconut oil. congrats!

Now what does that tell you? If it runs out fast, it has to be good /images/graemlins/wink.gif.

OMG I have the exact same coconut oil! Its in the back of my dresser (behind all the other products I have).

Hmmm. I was using this for a while then stopped. Maybe I should try it again... btw, I got mine from a health food store too.

Hey Crys! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

You aren't finding that the conconut oil is drying your hair out at all are you? I used Monoi for a while and I still do occasionally - but I got some drying with it and I am curious if there was something you were doing to avoid this or if you just hadn't experienced it at all with any brand of coconut oil....

CONGRATS, Crysdon! That man's compliment would've made me blush...

That sounds like a good product, too. I'll have to try it...

Tracy, this is exactly what I did:

1. Washed with Abba shampoo (rinsed)
2. ACV (left in)
3. Suave Moisturizing conditioner w/2 teaspoons of olive oil (rinsed)
4. Coconut oil (applied to damp hair)
5. Infusium 23 & water
6. Roller set

That's my normal routine, although lately it has been conditioner washes. I usually rub in WGO or EVOO while damp. The coconut oil actually kept the moisture in a lot better than the other two oils and it has an incredible slip.

I'll give it a few weeks and let you know if I have any problem with dryness.

Is the Monoi oil virgin or unrefined?

OK Tracy (and everyone else),

I just went to the Monoi web page and it looks like their coconut oil is refined. When it's refined, the oil is bleached, deodorized and stripped of all the good protective antioxidants.

Organic unrefined coconut oil is easily absorbed into the hair without weighing it down or making it greasy. It will not prevent moisture from getting into the hair and scalp like petroleum and mineral oil.

Look at this page to find out about the benefits of coconut oil for hair and skin. I did my research before buying it and the following two quotes really caught my attention:

"Its small molecular structure allows for easy absorption, giving both the skin and hair a soft smooth texture... Many people use coconut oil by itself because it is safe and natural."

You should really try it again Brownrelaxed. I was skeptical and thought that it would have a greasy feel and weigh my hair down. Remember though, a little goes a long way.
