I forgot to buy neutralizer and other funny relaxer stories...

So I had my touchup yesterday. I had my mom do it but since it was a last minute decision i really wasn't prepared this time. so she applies it then when i go in the shower to rinse it out I REALIZED I WAS OUT OF NEUTRALIZING SHAMPOO!! i panicked since i had no money to go buy any and i was home alone (mom when to work by then). So i rinse it off, jump in my car (which i shouldn't be driving cause it's uninsured) and floored it to my friend's house while looking like a crazy woman. No one at her house had any cash and they didnt get why i was hysterical. Finally my friend felt sorry for me when i told her i was gonna be bald if i don't neutralize soon cause she knows how obsessed i am with my hair (she even knows about this site). So she tries her debit card (which has no money on it) to buy some shampoo at the street oo mcorner hair store and it went through!! So i rush home and then shampooed 3 times while praying that my hair doesn't fall out. So far so good, no noticeable breakage. *whew*

Ladies, please share some funny things that happened while you were relaxing your hair or someone else's.
 
Neutralizing shampoo should be pretty acidic.

I don't think baking soda is an acid. It's alkaline, isn't it? I wouldn't do that :nono:

I would have tried doing an acv rinse, then neutralizing with a proper poo asap.

Happy you didn't experience any breakage!

Vinegar will neutralize too.

That's not funny though lol. Don't bother trying baking soda that's alkaline based that why people say it relaxes their curls when they use to much.
 
dang!! that sounds crazy as hell, so how come the perm you where using didnt come with a neutralizer? wow you friend is gonna end up with a 30 dollar fine... if she has chase bank make that like 50 dollars

If she was using lye relaxer, that's standard. Lye relaxers tend to come standalone.
 
Well its not really funny... but feel free to laugh at me if you want... I use to perm and bleach my hair every two weeks... This in 2004 AND 2005.

Perm..... bleach..... perm..... bleach...

Literally I was just perming my bald sides and patchy bleach blonde head... Oh Lord!!! But I had to touch up my roots...

I only use lye relaxers, not the ones that come in a kit.
 
One time I was self relaxing and it started tingling a little while I was on my last section. On top of that, I was trying to hurry applying because I had to doo doo :lachen:I was on the toilet while my head was starting to burn from the relaxer. Needless to say, I was trying my best to speed things up so I could hop in the shower and put the fire out in my head.:nono:

That's a nightmare of mine. That I would be ready to neutralize and I be out and every store is closed for a holiday and I don't have an ACV, or I be ready to rinse out my hair and the water is shut off every where in the city. :burning::burning::burning: That's why I pray before I do my touch up so that nothing bad happens.
