This summer has been the first time in years that i have given my hair a break from heat for more than 2 weeks and the results are well worth it, I am amazed at my hair right now , i am also transitioning since sept 05 so i think thats definitely helped thicken it up too, anyway, these are my results in words( i dont own a digital cam and my cell phone takes crappy pics). My hair is definitely longer than it was last time i flat ironed( maybe 2 months ago) and the ends arent chewed up thought theyre still thin and contain relaxer and the texture is very different, its very soft , silky and calm,, and the color looks more even! its just a uniform off black. I cant believe what a difference just leaving the hair alone of chemicals and heat for a while can make. The hair at my roots in so butter soft and silky, its like woven silk after flat ironing, the rest of my hair is a little courser since its been thru the drama of heat and the bottom 3 inches still have relaxer, I have to say this is very freeing to me, I didnt realize how great my hair could be without chemicals!! I want so badly to be all rid of my perm now becuz it gave me a crispy head lol anyway, I'm so so grateful to this board for helping learn how to do a no heat style( i did braid outs) and what an amazing difference that can make...

congrats! you lasted 2 months without heat? all i can do is a week but my hair can handle it though. enjoy your beautiful hair and buy a digital camera asap so we can all gawk at your hair.

I am excited to hear this. I've used heat only 2 times since I cut my hair in Feb, the last time being in May so I've been on a mission to avoid damaging my hair. I was thinking about straightening my hair today but your post gives me hope -- I'm going to try to hold out for another month.

Btw, can you offer up any flat ironing techniques? I want my hair butter soft when I get around to it!

I'm hiding my hair until December under a fall. It's sooo freeing. I co wash every 2-3 days or whenever I feel like it. I keep my hair moisturized under my fall and so...shh don't tell my fellow challengers but I pulled my hair taught just to see where I'm at and low and behold I was at collar bone length from shoulder length! That's about an inch and a half in a month and a few days. I was amazed at the length I'm able to retain when I leave my hair alone.

Anyways I will flat iron it in October or November...that will be 5 or 6 months without heat! I never thought I could go this long without heat styling my hair. Now if only I can learn to braid and twist this natural 4b hair! I'd be good to go!

I'm happy for you girl!!! And for me too!!!

Im glad i gave u no heat hope,, becuz i didnt have any b4 this!! I am ecstatic with it right now and im so happy i dont even wanna iron weekly anymore and get used to this feeling:lol::lol:,, MY only tips or tricks for a nice smooth as butter flat iron are,, really deep condition, make sure u start with clean hair but dont dry it out with superharsh shampoo, do a cold last rinse,, then after youve deep conditioned, SPARINGLY( or you might have flat limp hair) apply your fav butter or oil, mine is a little mango butter and a little jojoba oil esp on the fragile ends and the braid in large braids to dry. Then the next day take out the braids and use a heat protectant on each section , I use Fantasia IC spray in the pink bottle and Ive learned not to spray to the excess,( makes my hair stringy and flat), just spray enough to make sure the hair is smooth and be sure the hair is totally dry b4 u iron it.. as for the method of ironing just do what feels right and gets it straight,, honestly i must have my iron HOT to get it straight , so i try to keep it at the coolest hot i can , i use a CHI turbo which changed my life!:D HTH;)

No heat is the best thing ever for hair. I haven't heat styled my hair for over a year and people are now looking at me like "Who does she think she is with that weave." LOL
