I figured out what is wrong with my hair

So I have splits. Since the BC I've noticed my hair is very shiny and health, but my ends feel like they have knots on them. My hair is long enough now that I can actually see the ends of my hair. And I have splits!!!:nono: I'm so sad. My ends don't have knots, but they are dry and rough from splits. I was trying to figure out the best way to get rid of them and I think I'm going to have to straighten.

Here is my dilemma. I am scared of the flatiron!! I haven't flat ironed my hair since BC for fear my hair won't revert. I already have a very loose texture that hangs in the back and the front, what if they get damaged easier? But I need to see my ends and cut them before they damage my hair more, right?

I can't trim in twists and braids and all that because my hair never comes out smooth. When I say smooth I mean the twists are always fuzzy(bow I know why) And my ends are straight in twists, they don't coil at the ends(now I know why)

Now I am excited but scared. Any advice? I think I will DC overnight with my DPR-11 and then I don't know what else. Should I poo? Should I blow dry then flatiron? I need my roots straight as possible and I don't want to spend all day on this.

I recommend a poo to get off any build up that may cause the hair cuticle to act shady. Can you roller set on large rollers and then flat iron?

HAHA yea right. i don't have any rollers and if I did, I sucked at it when I was relaxed, I can only imagine it now. I just used Bentonite Clay on my hair like a week ago so I know there is something wrong with these ends. They have always felt like this. I'm scared.

I don't want to keep putting it off and ruin my progress.

Why don't you just blowdry as opposed to blowdry and flat iron. That or you can do it section by section without twisting your hair. Banding or trimming your hair when it's in a fully stretched out afro may be another option as well.

Well because when I blowdry my ends do not stay straight. After figting and sweating my ends usually end up curling back into each other and forming the round fro. You tell me how to do it and I will try. Otherwise I think I am going to need to flatiron to see my ends completly besides I'd like to see what my hair looks like.

If you have a looser texture then why not rollerset to get a straight result? You can air-dry in them or go under the dryer which is still safe because its indirect heat.

I don't have any rollers. i lost my debit card so i am waiting on my new one to come in. Right now I have no cash. Anyways I have a looser texture in the back nape and in the front on the top. Still type 4 regular kinky coily beauty. Just those sections are def different. Maybe I will try curlformers, I heard those are expensive. I'm not trying to go broke here. I haven't tried to rollerset my hair and tomorrow I am not trying to mess up. I want to get my hair straight and get those ends off.

When I think of rollersets I think of magnetic rollers. is there something else I can use? help me out. Do you rollerset BMP?

Yep I was thinking of magnetic rollers too, cirlformers seem to amazing but they are a bit on the pricey side:ohwell:

I never rollerset....my coils would laugh at any traditional roller, my hair would definitely respond well to some curlformers though considering AfroKinks results.....but the way I straighten is to blow my hair out with my tourmaline ionic blowdryer, flat iron my hair on 8-9 outta 10 on the maxiglide and press my edges.....my hair can handle heat.

Lemme take a look at your texture from your fotki.......

I just went through your fotki and you seem to have the same hair type as me......I didn't really notice these looser sections. I think it would be totally fine if you straightened on high heat just once so you can properly address your ends.....doing it just once will not prevent your hair from reverting fully......as long as you use the right tools and technique you should be just fine. Here's a link to my straightening technique

Ok I am going to check out your fotki now. OK I am so excited! I hope I don't have to cut much. I already decided that even if I do have to, I'm cutting a little at a time.

ETA- looked at the link. I am def going to have to find that blowdryer, but for now my conair is going to have to do. I only have a sedu 1.5 inch so I hope I can acheive good results. It's all in the technique they say. I already have the serum now I have to get the spray.

Question: When you spray that on your hair do you let it dry before flat ironing?

I do 380-395 with no issues. You only do this once in a blue moon and its not like you're using some cheap metal iron or a marcel iron, we have almost identical textures, your coils should pop back with no issues.

@Geminigirl,

When ever i need to trim i blow my hair out straight.

#1. i co- wash then spray each section with heat protectant. then i take a medium sized round blowdry brush.

#2
i take a section and with the brush i put it at the root of my hair as if i'm going to brush that section. and hold the blow dryer on the opposite side of the section of hair.( like a sandwich. brush on one side - my hair - and the blow-dryer on the other side.)

#3 and i slowly move down the shaft of my hair. repeatedly. until my hair is as straight as i need it.

this works extremely well for me. it defeats my need to flat iron. if ever i want my hair straight. maybe you try this and it will work. HTH. <3.

OMG does that cause smoke? I have a denman and a conair blow dry brush but no round brush. I don't think I want the blow dryer directly on my hair!! That's scary! Do you have pics?
