I did my own braids!

This is definitely the method where hair is put on the needle thing and slipped through the cornrow? Those crochets look so natural!

I saw the Sensationnel site, and didn't quite understand the directions. So, after you pull it halfway through, do you tie it or something? I remember when I was younger and got crochets with the S-Curl hair, it hurt! And I lost hair, I don't know if it's because of that lady's technique or what. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Karonica,

Yeah, it shouldn't hurt too much. Make sure the cornrows aren't too tight because tying the hair in makes it feel even tighter. What you do is this (I hope I explain it well):

1. Take the hair and fold it in 2 (so you have a folded end and loose end)
2. Hook folded end onto crochet hook
3. close hook and slip it under cornrows till you exit from other side
4. open hook (hair should look like this: folded end on one side of cornrow and loose ends on the other side)
5. Loop the loose ends through the folded side and tie (1 to 2x)

Ms_kenesha,

She's in Kansas. I was sad about how far she was located too. I just learned to do it myself...of course with my sis cornrowing.

Faith, thanks for the info. Where do you order your synthetic deep wave? I want to see how it looks compared to the human deep wave, which is what I use....

Here you go Leshia:

http://www.braid-designer.com/gallery.html (underneath the main pic...click interlock) and this http://pages.prodigy.net/srfreeman/blackbraids.html (here they are called crochets...same thing). I may also do it with deep wave synthethic hair. I emailed the owner of that 2nd site and she said she gets the hair to stay in by using weave glue. HTH /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Faith, this is so beautiful. I love it. Are you going to do it yourself??? Now, I'm interested! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Congratulations to everyone who can do their own braids! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I wish I could do my own. /images/graemlins/look.gif

Carefully. It just slips out actually. It suprises me all the time that they don't come out in public /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Try not to play with them too much in public /images/graemlins/blush.gif I have not experienced any damage from doing this. My sis used to do the rows tooooo tight but when I b*tched at her and told her I wouldn't pay she did it just perfect this time. LOL! I have seen some hook through the cornow, that will damage your hair instead interlock undeneath the cornrow (there's tons of room under there if it's not done super tight). Hope that answered your ??? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Leshia **wavin back at u**. I braid mines mostly down to the end because i like the very ends out. I don't burn them. I wear mine at just below shoulder length. Ummm.. It prolly takes me about 20-24 hours to do my hair with a lot of breaks, so that's why i think it takes me so long. Even i then don't think its perfect cuz, exactly what Karonica says, the bigger ones don't match up with the rest of your braids. So I actually touchup different areas as need be. I do this all while having to go to school as well (I'm 15).
But hey it looks good, so why not.

Congratulations Karonica!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am VERY proud of you, and as a person who can't even cornrow, or rollerset particularly well, I am impressed when someone CAN braid!!

Good going! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I posted step by step pics of me doing my interlocks if you are all interested. Click on my album link. HTH

heeey, tell me how u guys locked it into the hair? I can braid but i need to know how to KEEP the hair IN my head. LOL. I got like 5-7 bags of hair thats not used :^S. Help me w/a site, pics or some1 can tell me how to lock the hair INTO the hair and THEN start braiding down.

Aww man I wish I had some pics to show you. I do mine a little differently. I start braiding my own hair and add in pieces as I go down so there's no knot at the top. I wash my hair twice a week and they don't slip out at all. My braids are also very small and tight though so that might be why they stay so well. I use two pieces of extension hair folded in half for each braid. When I'm braiding I hold each end with the two OUTSIDE sections of my hair that I'm braiding and then continue braiding for a bit. Then when the 3rd section that was in the middle the last time I added hair is now one of the outside sections I take my second piece of folded extension hair and do as before. You wind up with a pretty seamless braid that can be as long as you want it.

As for the knot at the top if you wanted to do it that way I can visualize how to do it and could do it for you but I'm not quite sure how to EXPLAIN how to do it.

I hope I didn't confuse you anymore.

I would love to learn how to do my own braids, but I can't figure out how to keep my ends from popping out of the braid.

-I know how to add the extension.
-I know how to braid the hair
-But I can't figure out how to keep my ends from sticking out through the braid.

Does anyone know how???

Fashion I've had this problem too. In fact I even saw it when I used to get them professionally done. I don't think there's a way to TOTALLY prevent it. But I have noticed 2 things.
1- The smaller the braid the less it pops out.
2- After a few rinsings and smoothing down with S-Curl or some moisturizer the hair tends to lay down anyway so you don't notice it.

Hi Keke!
wave.gif

Well, I just took the hair, wrapped it around mine one full time, and then another time but only half way around, and then began plaiting. So, that's one and a half wraps before plaiting. I will be honest and tell you that my hair didn't look that great at all

, but I managed to pull it off because I chose a curly type hair, and that was more of a distraction from my braiding (which was a good thing). The only advice I can offer you is to practice, practice, practice. I got better and better with starting the top part of the braid the more I did it. You may find, like Enyaa, that a non-traditional approach may work best for you. Just start experimenting.

I will hopefully have some new pics in my hair journal next month.

Well, um u lose me at the part where u said u dont braid at the roots. But its ok i'll just have to read your stuff over and over till i get it. hehe. Anyway i have braided my moms hair and i did it pretty good just have to make the not not so big. I tugged at it a bit and it didnt fall out. So seems i can do it on other folx hair but not mine, mostly cause i can see their hair all over, unlike w/mine :^P I'll get it 1 day i will. Gotta practice more. and maybe i should NOT press my hair and grease it b4 i do it. LOL. Thats prolly another factor why its slipping out. hahha.

Hey, Karonica, u no thats just what i did w/my moms and it worked. Now is it ok to um...put the hair into a knot? U no, tie the hair int2 a knot at the root and then braid down? hehe. Or will that only tangle the hair? Plus, im gonna try it again w/my hair now that its all thick and curly maybe the braids will stay on botter. Hmm, i dunno, but yes. practice, practice. Im gonna prolyl get me some breaids next year since i wanna go perm this year. :^D Ty all. :^)

Tie it in a knot? I don't know if I recommend this one.

But, I suppose it could work now that I think about it. Hmmmmm.....
