Hey Jen, what kind of hair did they use for your cornrows? I remember you saying you had some done.

Aww man I wish I had some pics to show you. I do mine a little differently. I start braiding my own hair and add in pieces as I go down so there's no knot at the top. I wash my hair twice a week and they don't slip out at all. My braids are also very small and tight though so that might be why they stay so well. I use two pieces of extension hair folded in half for each braid. When I'm braiding I hold each end with the two OUTSIDE sections of my hair that I'm braiding and then continue braiding for a bit. Then when the 3rd section that was in the middle the last time I added hair is now one of the outside sections I take my second piece of folded extension hair and do as before. You wind up with a pretty seamless braid that can be as long as you want it.

As for the knot at the top if you wanted to do it that way I can visualize how to do it and could do it for you but I'm not quite sure how to EXPLAIN how to do it.

I hope I didn't confuse you anymore.

Ennyaa,
Thanks for providing this info on how you braid your hair. Tonight I braided my hair in individual/box braidish braids and it only took about three hours from start to finish. Thanks so much for the instructions.

The tightness will come with pratice. I just started getting mine tighter last year and I've been braiding my own hair for 5 years now. It does take concentration to get it tight around the base.

Wow, and I thought I was a pro my 1st time 'cause I wasdoing it loose, sitting & wondering why the pro's can't braid more like me...

I've braided my sis' hair 2.5 times--individuals the 1st time, 2 layer cornrows the 2nd time, and a touch-up for her front. It's really fun braiding hair, and very empowering

. Just knowing that you can do something for yourself AND save some money is a great feeling. I'd like to try to braid my own hair w/extentions one day though...

I would love to learn how to do my own braids, but I can't figure out how to keep my ends from popping out of the braid.

-I know how to add the extension.
-I know how to braid the hair
-But I can't figure out how to keep my ends from sticking out through the braid.

Does anyone know how???

AFS, you just need to hold your hair closer to the loop over spot, so that you can smooth then tuck the hair under. It's hard to explain without demonstrating but perhaps these pics can help, namely Pic #9 and Pic #10

If you hold your hair too far from the loop over part (#9), chances are your own hair will stick out. However, if you hold it closer to where the hair is crossing over (#10) you're more able to ensure every hair gets tucked in.

Hope that makes sense.

Karonica, you go witcha bad self.

...OK, I did that for no reason at all 'xcept I have egg on my face and had to take it out on someone. OK, now that I'm drowning in embarrassment

, can you point me to the pictures. Or at least humor me with some new ones so I can focus on oohing and ahhing at your hair, instead of on how purple my face looks/feels right now.

I never developed them, nonie.

I'm sowwy. Send me your digicam and I'll take a pic of my hair for you.

j/k Other than that, I don't do the "take the hair pictures to CVS to develop" anymore. Too embarassing.

I'm glad I know how to do my own, I got sick of paying my hairdresser $200 for every time I wanted it done

i'm thinking about doing mine the minute i get out of school. I like tip #7. that's the most beneficial of all. I'm going to start the crown and glory technique because I'm at this plateau i cannot get over
