I Did My Own Touch-Up!!!

Yesterday, I did my own touch-up with guidance from my friends at LHCF!!! It turned out great, so far. I used Motions Mild relaxer and added 1tbsp. of olive oil to about 1/2 cup of relaxer. I used the quadrant method of applying since I'm a novice. I actually applied it really fast so I had plenty of time for smoothing left, which surprised me.

After applying the relaxer I used Motions Moisture Plus conditioner for 10 minutes and then neutralized with neutralizing shampoo. I then used Elucence Extended Moisture Repair Treatment for *20 min. under a warm dryer. Then I applied Kereacare Humecto Conditioner for about an hour (no dryer). I then let it air dry and braided it into two pigtails and went to sleep.

Today, I'm going to use the At One With Nature conditioner that Mochalolita gave me at the DC LHCF Meeting, last week, and do a conditioner wash. I'm on the fence about whether or not I wanna do a hot oil treatment with EVOO before my co-wash.

I wanna thank everyone who gave me such great advice and help, Peachtree, Mochalolita, Sweetcocoa, and anyone else who I may have forgotten!

*Edited to say 20 minutes not 10!

Good for you.......It is a major accomplishment...... I tried this one time about twelve years ago, but I will spare everyone the unsuccessful details.....

Congratulations!!

I've tried applying my own relaxer, but my hair reverted so quickly. I've decided to leave it to the professionals. Maybe one day I'll venture those grounds again!?

I'm glad it turned out well! I definitely feel more comfortable doing my own(with the help of a friend)...If I had to go to a salon, I would probably still be natural.

Ms Kenesha, why are you on the fence about this?

wow think of all the money you will be saying instead of going to a salon to get a touchup (if you ever went to one for a touchup). i wish i could find someone to do it for me because these "professional prices" are not working for me. congrats on a successful job done. God bless you all.

Hey Ms- Kenesha, I recently saw a thread that you started asking Den1 about her hair success since she had short hair as a child too. My hair was shoulder length as a little girl but I want so much more than that. I was just wondering if you've noticed any growth since you just relaxed? Is it beginning to crawl down your shoulders? I'm anxious to hear of someone's success that had short hair as a little girl also.
By the way, Den1 has new pics on her snapfish account. She is about 2" from waist length so you KNOW she's an inspiration for us.
Talk to you later!!!!!!

So Ms K. Are you going to take a break from Adrienne or what? I self relaxed on Tuesday (Motions Mild w/oil too) and think I'll go back to doing that but don't know what I'll do about my ends when I need a trim. Are you going to trim yourself too or go to Adrienne for that? Does Adrienne let you get a trim and nothing else or does she require a wash/set?

I figure if stylists charge seperately for a trim they should be able to do it as a single service too.

Let me know.

ps Do you like Motions better or the same as Affirm?

I'm glad to hear everything turned out great for you. It's not that hard if you're understand the process. Adding the oil is a great idea, I always add a tbsp to the relaxer also.

Sorry it took me so long to get back!!!!! Supergirl you are definitely an inspiration too. I'm going to send you a PM.
