I did it! I got a weave.

I got a weave last night. and I have to say it looks great (straight, just below shoulders) But mostly I am relieved that I don't have to look at my own hair for a while. I was at my end with my hair. Same bun, never getting to enjoy wearing it down for long. I realize that a weave is fake...my own hair was this style so it looks pretty good. I went to reniece.com for inspiration and that is really a great site. Also next time I will order from indianhairs.com. (I used hair I already had this time) But I am going to try to commit to a year of weaving. I have had alot of success in the past with 4-6 inches of growth. All I do is grease the scalp, sea-breeze for the itchies, wash every 3 weeks and re-do the whole thing every 3 months.
Any one want to join me? (My stylist is actually going to do this with me too...)

I will post pics. I got it sewed in. Glued is prettier and lies a bit better, BUT it is not good for your hair if your goal is to restore your hair.

yay! I have a sew in too!!! I'm not too happy with it but i'm sticking with it. Hopefully i'll keep it in for at least 6 weekss but i'm really hoping for longer. I went and got a synthetic curly one (i was being cheap) and now, i absolutely hate it!! Also, it was weaved to close to my hairline so there's not a lot options for styles. Oh well, LIFE!!


Anyways, congrats on your weave success. I hope you gain lots of growth with it!

Thanks bludacious, but i was getting so frustrated with it. It looks nice, but like everything when I looked at it all I saw was what was wrong. And for the last couple of months I was looking at it wayyy too much. So I knew that after 4 years of wearing "my own" hair it was time to go back to the weave. Also the last 2 years, despite being faithfull with the vitamins, wearing buns etc... I wasn't seeing any huge growth. And I know that this is not true--but when my hair isn't lovely inside I'm not feeling lovely either.
What I know works for me is a weave. My hair is far away from any hasty decisions that I might make and regret. So although there is a downside to the weave: itchies, blending issues, weave hair that gets kinda ratty after yo start washing it....I am going to do this for a year and give myself a break.
Any body with me? I'll post pics tomorrow, but I try to attach and it says my file is too large, so if someone knows what to do, I'll post. Or I put them on yahoo...

msportugal--mostly all my hair is in: I even have my stylist braid up the nape, because mine gets so nappy. Just the top out (and only a little bit for parting and blending)..

Caltron, I wore my hair in a weave for three years straight because of a home perm gone wrong. I would just look at it and cry and pull it because I was so angry. In went the weave. Well three years later--and no relaxing in between--I got it out in 2001. It was just about bra-strap. Three years seems like a long time, but during those three years I looked nice and wore "my" hair straight and long. I am not going to go for three years this time, but I am prepared at least a year... (I am going to get a ceramic straightner and a blowdryer for the front part.)

Also gosh, I have to say it again reniece.com is so inspirational.

How are you blending it on the top/front. That part gets old for me when I weave-it-up. I am always interested in how others blend and what type of hair they used.

My stylist braids it from ear to ear. and I even make her braid up the nape, because it just gets nappy an notty.
I live a little out at the top and a bit at the sides (because I have delicate sides and they DO NOT need to be pulled into cornrows...) The top I leave out is enough for either a middle, or a side part. that's it. Because my nape is braided there are no up-do's for me, but in the winter I don't care. The more that is braided up the more that grows. Also the hair that I had is from the local bss (asian owned) and it is silky straight about 12 inches (which is about mid-back for me) it was cheap so it won't stand up to too many washings I don't think. It's all the same color, but my stylist had some dark red int the shop so she put some in, My own hair blends nicely as long as it's pressed or it's a dead giveaway.
