Yup I did, intentionally too. I sliced off about 4 inches off my hair about 2 hours ago, all by myself. And so now I've gone from shoulder length to about neck length. I saved enough to gather it into a ponytail though.

So why did I do it, especially since I want it to grow long? Well, I must fess up, I got tired of the tangles that I've been experiencing this past week since I'm transitioning. Inspite of all my best efforts, all the deep conditioning, hot oils treatments and protein treatments, I've done the past few months, it was inevitable. I haven't been able to stop the tangles from happening and I also got tired of seeing the permed hairs mixed in with the natural hair when I would wear my hair out. I condition wash every day, so roller setting my hair is out until the cold weather kicks in. But, on the plus side, my hair looks healthy!! All the damaged parts are now gone and I have accumulated 3 inches of new growth since May!! I also saved myself 40 bucks!! U can still see some permed hairs, but those scissors won't creep up further than my neck!

My husband doesn't know yet, he's at work and no one has seen it!!! I am working on style right now as I type.

So, ladies, I could use some support right now!!! He'll be home in 90 minutes!! If all goes well, I"ll post some pictures!!

Thanks!!

edited to add: my hair is also double processed. I colored my hair with Feria back in March. While it looked great at the time, I was getting sick of looking at it!!

WHEW! Girl, I was worried when I read the heading. We've chatted about ur forth coming cut, but I have to admit, at first i thought u got fed up & started hacking off ur hair. Ok, I'm glad that was not the case.

So all went well? Congrats

Wow......you are so brave. Here I am wanting to cut mine all one length but I'm scared I'll regret it. I'm sure your hair looks much better also and now you have a fresh new start. You go girl!

Hope your hubby doesn't give you any grief!

This is what exactly I did in early june. I had been growing out my natural hair since october. It had grew out to an significant amount to where I had enought to support individual braids. I had 4 inches of natural hair and the same amount of relaxed hair on top of it. I looked at my hair and my relaxed ends were pratically see-through. My natural hair you could not see through it. At that point I thought my relaxed hair looked so ugly and weak that I hacked it off. Now my hair is an healthy 5 inches and strong. It feels good once you take that big step. I think my hair has grown a lot since october. Right now I look like my avatar.

Caramelkiss,

What a brave woman you are! But I understand the mental process there. When your sick of it, you're sick of it!

On the up side, if you've managed to remove all of the relaxer, you're allowing yourself more time and patience to get used to your natural texture again. That's great!

psst...so what did your husband have to say?

caramelkiss--- i say as long as it it healthy, that's all that counts... hair will grow back......i hope to see the pics soon....

Gurrll!!! I did get a bit scissor happy didn't I? Let me tell u what I did. I started off cautiously, I trimmed off 2 inches. Sprayed and combed. Still tangles. I said to myself, okay, how about another 2? Sure, why not. I trimmed, combed, tangles again! I was really frustrated at this point. And so, I told myself okay, 2 more inches and that's it. Got the spray bottle back out, and oh my goodness. That comb glided through my hair as though it was silk!!! I was very very happy at that point but also extremely nervous because the next question was, how am I going to style this short hair???

Lucia, I have the suspicion that u are right!! The relaxed hair was choking like weeds! My natural hair is just pushing through and wreaking havoc!!

MissM- my suggestion is do what u can handle. I don’t think u have to do a big chop if ur not ready for it, I mean I didn’t. I just wanted enough to gather it into a ponytails for those days when I don’t feel like doing anything with my hair.

I was sick of it AZjeepgirl!! I was having dreams about my relaxed hair and natural hair duking it out!! It was bad!!! LOL and I was driving my husband up the wall too about it. He told me to do what I think is best and that he would still love it no matter what.

Sherrylove, that’s what I wanted, the health back. I did a modest trim a few weeks ago, but I still hadn’t removed the damaged parts. I eventually said to my self, okay, the length can come later, u really have to focus on the health.

...& hubby's reaction???

[/ QUOTE ]

I was gona get to that part!!! Girl, I'm trying to tidy up, do laundry, get stuff ready for class tomorrow and do this hair!! I just got through putting in a deep conditioner.

Okay, let me start at the beginning. He got home, saw me sporting my two pony tails and he said to me, u look different. I said, in what way? He said u did something with your make-up. LOL, I was like uhh uhh. He sits downs, asks what time dinner will be ready (typical) and then I told him. I removed the ponytails and....HE LOVED IT!!! He was SO surprised!!! He says it gives me a different look and makes me look exotic. Well, I was thrilled!!! I was elated!!! All that stress just melted right off!!! We took some pictures last night and so I am putting together an album.

But I realize my hair will defiitely require a different type of care now. Even though I still have some permed hair remaining, my hair is reacting differently to products now. For instance, I might have to change the glycerine cocktail a bit and also, I used L'oreal smooth intense serum last night, and my hair wasn't liking it at all. It's too early to say though. Last night I warmed some olive and jojoba oil and applied it to my hair before going ot bed. I washed my hair this morning with CON regular formula, apllied a light protein reconstructor (keraphix) and now I have Redken's allsoft in my hair. I combed my hair a bit through each step just to touch the resiliency and strength and while the permed hairs are detangling well, but not as well as the natural hair. The natural hair didn't tangle AT ALL!! I am just stunned. So far, it's a good begining! Thank God!!!

And Ladies, I really really want to give u all a BIG THANK YOU for your words of support. It's meant a lot to me and I hope that I can give back what u have given me!!!!

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!!

Wow, it is so wonderful that everything turned out so well! I wish I were bold enough to get rid of my relaxed ends, I just don't have the heart to do it!

Thanks dontspeakdefeat!! It was actually cathartic for me. Also, I didn't get all of the relaxed ends off. I didn't touch my bangs at all and the sides are still mostly relaxed too. I've been experimenting all day today with hair styles! Oh what fun! LOL

Re: I Cut my Hair!!-Thank You Ladies!!

Well CarmelKiss...you inspired me! I went right in the bathroom and cut some more of my V from the back! Just lifted it up and sliced right across. Yesssir ree! And you know what? I actually do feel better! I'm so tired of looking at the back of my hair in the mirror shaking my head at how the bottom of my hair comes down into a point, an exaggerated point. It just looked so out of sync.

I've decided that this is my punishment for sitting in a hair stylist's chair last summer watching in horror while he took my request for bangs and decided to add some additional flair and layered the front of my hair! And not realizing that at every trim, he was gradually shaping my hair into that damn V!!! I'm still growing this mess out! So I'm just going to have to be bra strap length for a while until this stuff grows to all one length and then no one is coming near it!

I'll just have to do this in baby steps, my first self cut into my V was right before I got married in March. So I'll just take off a little at a time every couple of months until it grows out.

Thanks for the inspiration and it was totally pain-free!!!!

Re: I Cut my Hair!!-Thank You Ladies!!

Miss M! That pic u have posted of your hair is GORGEOUS!!!!!! I am DROOLING!!! Okay, lemme stop now!

It's great isn't it? I had this V in the back to which was starting to look retarded. Also, when I was visiting my folks, I had my hair cut in layers and thinned out twice in March and in April because my hair is thick and bulky. Now that these layers are growing out, I am smoothing them down so that they don't look like cowlicks. If they were long, it would be be fine, but the shortest layers don't even come down to my ears.

But, doing baby steps is a great ideal. If my hair was as long as yours, I don't think I would've cut off as much.
