I will probably be ending my stretch today. I'm tired of my scalp not being able to breathe. I will post pics if I decide to give in.

So how many weeks post are you? Why can't your scalp breathe, what kinda hair style do you have?

8 wks post... ng is feels like it is packed to my scalp- I was really going to try to make it 4 more weeks!

i had to do it, too. i got a touch-up yesterday. i wasn't doing something right so i was losing a bit of hair everytime i washed it, which i had to do, because my head was itching... 12 weeks, though.

i guess we gotta listen to our hair.

I'm quite sure your scalp can breathe.:lachen:But on a more serious note, i stretch my relaxers 12+ since the beginning of my healthy hair journey. What helped me was shampooing/dcing atleast once a week and keeping my hair moisturized. When i first started stretching i used to go crazy with s-curl on my edges and ng. As long as you try to keep the ng moisturized, combing and detangling are less complicated (atleast for me). You should also try the scarf method and invest in low maintence styles such as the bun. I hope i was somewhat helpful. There's also a relaxer stretch support thread that i think would help you alot. I'll find the link for you. Best wishes!

Wheezy's comments were on point. I stretched for 26 weeks and for the most part it was ok. Wash day was long due to detangling and prepooing but my scalp could breathe. I think when stretching you have to have a solid reggie and protective styles!

yeah your scalp can still breathe :lachen:

think of the fully natural ladies, the scalp must be able to breathe

you just need something to soften and make your newgrowth more managable

thanks ladies.I hava been doing all of the above- I use hawaiian silky 14/1 on my ng. I've changed my mind about relaxing!

I was trying to transition the first time and at 8 weeks I just couldn't do it on my own so much popping and I felt like I had a lil' fro under my strands. I gave in and went to my stylist and got another touch up.

About 2 weeks post, I told her that I really wanted to go natural and she was all for helping me. It's only been 6 weeks but I'm much more hopeful this time. See, I usually wash my hair every week (I go to her every two weeks so that means one Saturday I wash my own hair, the next Saturday, she does).

Today is my Saturday and I was hesitant to wash my hair because I knew it would not get as smooth about the roots and strands as she gets it at the shop. I called her and she said I didn't have to wash it - and that it still looked cute from when she did it. She goes to my church so she sees me about 3 times a week and knows how I like my hair to look.

So that's what I'm going to do to reduce any breakage and keep my new growth moisturized and tolerable, not wash it so much, or at least weekly - but I won't go past two weeks. I don't grease my scalp, just moisturize my strands and roots and massage with my shea/coconut oil concoction, so my scalp is not filthy and my hair doesn't smell... I HATE that! I realize that this won't fly during the summer when the sun hits the hair but hopefully by that time, I'll have enough growth to change things up.

She deeeeep conditions me and puts me under the dryer for most of the way and then blow dries me the rest. It comes out really nice, hydrated and although not straight... tolerable and presentable. NOTE: my hair is not long enough for a ponytail or even a fake bun so until it gets a little more length I'll be doing flat twists.
