I cant believe I:

-Used to use Marcel curling irons EVERY WEEK and 'touch up' my style during the week with plug-in curlers

-Used to stress my hair out with the following relaxer regimen: no lye, silicon DC, lotion, marcels, gel, hair spray

-Used to let the stylist spray my hair with hairspray just before using the hot marcel irons to 'hold the curl' aka 'freeze curls'

-Used to let the stylist run the relaxers all the way to my ends because it 'wore off' and was 'reverting' (can you say 'fried' and 'overprocessed'?)

-Used pink oil, grease, and brown gel all on the same day, same style--often as a 'heat protectant' with the hot curlers:(

-never use conditioner
-think I was "moisturizing" my hair with hair grease
-only wash my hair once a month (gross I know)
-wash my 4a hair loose, blow dry it on high, and THEN comb it out without using any sort of leave in
-never ask my hair stylist why he always "trimmed" so much off my ends (Probably because I had a million ssk's but he never bothered to tell me that or how to prevent them)

- Intentionally set my hair on fire.
- heat grease in the microwave to use as a "hot oil treatment."
- Not punch a stylist for cutting six inches off my hair without telling me.

-Only washed my hair once a month
-never did a deep conditioning treatment
-Have my hair done at a beauty college(NEVER again)/rely on others to do my hair
-Flat iron my heat damaged hair over and over

Wear braids, extensions or weaves for months without washing. :perplexed:

Think conditioner was a waste of money

Shampoo my hair all loosey goosey with lots of it all over my hair, creating tangles galore

Blowdry my hair on hot until it was like the Sahara, then slathering Indian Hemp grease all over in four sections.

Part my hair by ripping through it and combing it roughly.

Deep condition/HOT what?

Let stylists braid my hair up really tight...thought that's the way it was supposed to be...you know 'cause with beauty comes pain.

Let stylists blow dry my hair with the comb attachment just ripping little pieces here and there.

Braid my hair up at night and little pieces would be falling everywhere...thought that was normal

Wear an afro every day all day w/out moisturizing or doing anything to keep it up...I mean it was cute but...

Put tons of black gel on my edges or leave out for half wigs. :ohwell:

I can't believe I used to...

Blow dry my already dry hair with a comb attachment to try to get it straighter and bouncy

Dry comb my hair every day with a fine tooth comb

Use a curling iron on my hair every day and rarely use heat protection

Never moisturize my hair

Get a bone straight touch up every 6 weeks

Somehow I still made it to collarbone length...

I can't believe I went to a some shady, ghetto apartment when I was six months pregnant to get some box braids. While I was there, somebody heated up some food that smelled like burnt garbage. My pregnant nose got a whiff, and I almost upchucked. I stopped the braider so I could go outside an get some air.

When I got home, I had to take to my bed because the braids were so tight and I was still sick from that stank food. My braids were cute tho. LoL:grin:

Let the braiders shave the fuzz off the length of my braids. Length was gone!

Sit for 10 -12 hours for micros

Ugh!

I can't believe I used to...
Get my phony pony with the black gel, sprintz and the blow drier
Relaxed my hair root to tip
Allowed the relaxer stay on til it burned (sometimes it wouldn't burn so it stayed on for 30mins-1hour)
Get my relaxer combed through with a rattail comb
Never moistured
Greased my scalp because it said it would make my hair grow
Had terrible breakage from my terribly dry hair so I'd use products that promised to stop breakage (protein) and that would be it not knowing that I needed moisture after-ending up with even more breakage
Never deep conditioned
Blow dry my hair on high heat and violently rake my hair with the attached comb without detangling first and with no leave-in or heat protectant and wonder why half my hair was behind me on the bathroom wall...
Omg..smh. I didn't know any better yall

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:at the bold. I could not stop laughing. I used to do that same crap. I thought hair was supposed to fall out! :lachen:

Up until a few weeks ago I used a brush every morning to get my hair into a bun or ponytail. I knew better but I couldn't stop myself. I just finally broke that bad habit.

I can't believe I used to perm and color my hair myself...my poor lil strands of hair looked so pitiful. I had no clue what I was doing to my hair and scalp. Lawd...smdh.

Yes!!!! That was so me :lachen:

I can't believe I used to:

-Use heavy protein Cholesterol treatment every wash day as a "moisturizer" ....then I wondered my hair felt like brick.

-Believe that oiling my hair/scalp with DAX HAIR WAX everyday was going to make my hair shiny and bouncy...when it really made me look like don king

-Use pink lotion as my everything...heat protectant...conditioner...growth serum...elixir...couldn't tell me nothin'

-Brush through my hair with a course hog bristle brush to lay my alleged "edges" down with pink lotion, a non-ceramic ancient mesopotamian curling iron, and finish up the ponytail with a rubber band....then I wondered why there was more hair in the brush than there was on my head

- I can't believe I used to wash my hair twice an equinox lol

Oh how times have changed

Very interesting thread. The bad things we did for beauty, lol. I can't believe I didn't ever deep condition (and I LOVE deep conditioning now),
Thought I had good long hair even thou it was SL and very thin
Relax, color, and flat iron on 450f all on the same day and wondered why my hair was breaking damn near the roots
I knew my hair needed to be washed at least once a wk but didn't cause I didn't think my hair would grow and dirty hair grew better

Flat ironing my hair every day before school, no heat protectant.
Washing my hair once a week with shampoo, no conditioner.
Not moisturising ever.

The worst thing I've ever done to my hair is also the thing that kicked me into proper hair care. I had my hair in braids for a month but wanted a random colour change so I clarified 3x at home, then a normal shampoo and then I headed off to the salon where they shampoo'ed my hair 2x again. And then I had my hair dyed twice. WHY. WHY. WHY. :lachen:

Still paying for my sins but it can only get better from here.

Almost all of my offenses, someone else has already said, lol!

* relax root to tip every 5-6 weeks (did it myself)

*made sure to really coat the ends with relaxer because they always looked bushy

* would only neutralize 2-3 times and call it good

* would wonder why I had bald spots and no nape after these relaxing sessions

* after, "neutralizing", I would blow fry on high heat, ripping through with a rat tooth comb

*after blow-frying, I would flat iron as hot as the iron could get and do multiple passes, lingering on the bushy ends, no heat protectant...though I actually had a bottle of it sitting on the shelf collecting dust (random purchase at Sally's)

*after that, "moisturize" hair with baby oil and pink lotion :nono:

* grease scalp with B&B super grow, and only "moisturize" when I thought about it

*brush hair vigorously with a nylon brush to "stimulate growth" per my stylist....

*thought the hundreds of broken peices in the sink and everywhere else were normal

* I did tie my hair up at night with a satin scarf, but I tied in a very tight knot at the nape, in the same spot, for years.....

*glued in weave pieces to cover for my damaged areas to give my hair "fullness" then ripped pieces out when I felt like it. Took a rat toothed comb to comb the glue out of my hair

*I washed every 2-3, sometimes 4 weeks and I would apply conditioner like I was doing something, but it was Vo5 or something cheap like that, never deep-conditioned (didn't know the difference)

Despite all this, I had shoulder length hair when I found LHCF, although you could see straight through it

Remember that Mariah Carey song "Thank God I found you"? That's how I feel about LHCF. GReat thread!

Most of mine are here but,

-I snatched my edges by years of wearing a cotton scarf and literally ripping it off EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. LAWD!

-I relaxed my hair root to tip every 28 days.

-I would RIP a comb through my hair several times a day because "I'm black, my hair is strong!"

-I didn't think anything was wrong even though my hair stayed the same length for years even though I'd only had one or two minor trims in my life.

-I let my Mom trim my hair w/o her glasses, with a pair of scissors from around the house.

The only thing I did right was wash my hair once/twice a week.

The aha! moment occurred for me when my edges were snatched in not one, not two but THREE places. My side part kept going further and further to the right

...touch up my new growth and then apply relaxer from root to tip, smoothing it tightly to my head and applying extra to the ends to make sure they were straight.

...never use a timer but would leave the relaxer in my hair until I couldn't handle the "burn". And I used to tough it out.

...flat iron my hair without heat protectant.

...avoid using moisturizers because I didn't want to weigh my hair down.

... relax and lighten my hair.

Wow.

I can't believe I used to color my hair biweekly it seemed

Relaxed my hair every 4 weeks

Used heat with no temperature gauge and no heat protectant

Never sealed or moisturizer before 2011

1. sleep with no scarf on cotton pillow
2. think that changing to a satin pillow but still no scarf was an improvement
3. let a stylist color my hair every relaxer (very brief relationship :look:)

I'm sure there's more, thankfully knowledge is power!

I was so lost in my teenage years.

From age 12-16 I wore my hair in this tired (and I mean tired) slicked back pony tail. I'd use water, pink hair lotion and a boar brush to "style" it every single day. Some days I'd just use water and rake at my scalp with the brush.

I used any kind of shampoo, didn't matter the brand. I only used conditioner because an aunt suggested me to.

I hated the process of detangling (bad childhood memories of my mom getting frustrated) so I avoided doing it until my hair started to lock. It usually locked in the middle area of the back of my head.

I guess my mom got tired of my pony tail too so she started taking me to get my hair done at her stylist when I was 16. Yup, relaxer with a side of fried, dyed and laid to the side every two weeks.

In college I skipped on the relaxers and just flat ironed CONSTANTLY, multiple times in a week and every single week until late spring of last year.

I used oil sheen as a moisture, but only when my hair was straight.

Never made it past SL wearing the pony tail, however when I straightened my hair, I barely made it to APL. And I stayed there too for years. From late 2007 to 2012, nothing but heat.

LOL ahaha :lachen:
I imagined you saying this in a chappelle voice http://www.comedycentral.com/video-clips/2rupm2/chappelle-s-show-tyrone-biggums---fear-factor

I can't believe I used to not know anything about putting protein back into the hair shaft.

I can't believe I needed to relax every 2 months, I mean, it's nice to not have to deal with two textures but stretching allows for a break from the harsh chemical so often. Not saying I won't relax every 2 months in the future but at least I have the knowledge that I can extend the time between relaxers.

I can't believe I used to allow stylists to cut off loads of hair, even up to last hair. Well, yeah, now that's a hell no.
