How are all of you doing?

Well I took my hair out of braids. ANd I am proud to say that my hair has grown one inch. And that is an accomplishment. I will be posting more pics on my fotki server, showing my real length of hair. And the thickness. But so far my hair, can do so much, it's short. I can only fit it into a 1 inch ponytail. I don't want to be going to school being laughed at. I mean shcool is about one and a half weeks away from now. January 6, 2003. But I am going to be taking pics, of how my hair is, and how it matches with my face. NOw I am going to let all of you be the judge, and see what styles you may fit my face. I want a creative style that I can do with my real hair for once. INstead of wearing braids ALL THE TIME!!! Well thank you in advance. My pics will be on Fotki, possibly in a few hours.

Hey, ya looking good girl. Personal question, how old are you I think I saw it posted somewhere so I believe you are very young, but oh so wise for your age. I'm so proud to be a member with you. I only wish my daughter who is 15 would take an active interest in her hair the way you do. Happy hair growing.
 
Thank You very much ladydee36330.I am 13 years old. Lol, yeah there are other teenagers participating in their hair. I am sure your daughter hair is longer than mine. Lol. But you know, I just wanted to know everyones opinion on what style I can wear to school, and any where else. I have to learn how to rollerset, and doing a wrap is hard enough and all. But you know, I am just bored, just chillen, lookin at posts.
 
Nessa I can't really see your length, how long is your hair?
are you trying to get ideas for protective styles?
 
Well my hair is around ear length, one inch below my ears. I just want styles I can wear to school, and protective styles at the same time.
 
Hmm...If I were you, I would braid again for another 2 months and take them out. When my hair was short I found wearing braids was the best thing to allow my hair to grow. That way it was easier for my hair to get a break. It was too short for a ponytail or bun, and I didn't want to have to use the curling iron, so braids was the best option for me. It really worked. When it was long enough to pull back, I got a fake ponytail (the drawstring one) and wore that for months. Now my hair is longer than it's ever been since I was a child.

I guess that would be okay, I have been braiding my hair for nine years and more. But maybe, I should keep getting my hair braided and experience growth. But that is another thing I can decide too, i still want other opinions, Thank you.

Hey, Nessa,

When I was in college a friend of mine had hair about your length (from your description - I can't connect to the site with your pictures right now) and she wrapped it. No heat whatsoever. Do you know what I'm talking about? Wash it, put in leave-ins and just wrap it around. As a matter of fact, a former co-worker of mine did the same thing. She wore it just flat to her head. With your length, you don't have to worry about protective styles since your hair is getting caught on your clothes or anything like that.

If you want curls, you can always use the Caruso molecular rollers. Do you have that? It gives your hair curls with steam rather than dry heat. Indirect opposed to direct heat.

I wish I could see the pictures or I could give you more ideas. I'm glad you're taking a break from the braids.

That's a good ideal GodMadeMePretty--Caruso rollers. Nessa, I would probably wear a bob style with ends that are bumped under with these rollers. Wrap the hair at night.
To make wrapping easier, put a big roller in at the top of your head (this way you won't have to deal with that hump that some of us get when we try to wrap our heads.) Then wrap the hair around your head.

Also try this on special occasions---Comb your hair back, with a diagnol part on the side. Flip the ends up with Caruso rollers. A flip style would be adorable on you.

And experiment with a flat twist out with a head band.

Caruso rollers are just like hot rollers but it comes with a container to put water in it. I think the ones they have now don't require salt, but mine requires salt (plus salt makes water boil quicker). The water heats up rather quickly and steam rises. Then you put the sponge roller (special kind) on the steam and then roll. Then you put the cover on the roller. Leave in until it's dry - probably about 5-10 minutes. You could put those in as soon as you wake up in the morning. Go about getting ready, brush teeth, etc. and when you're ready to walk out the door, take them out and style your hair. This is my first attempt to upload a picture but here you go.

I don't understand, most of the things you are sayin, I don't know how to do a wrap.Or how you rollerset......
I just saw the price!!!!!!! That price is eye dropping I would never be able to get that. I would have to save for a year. That would be so much owrk and stuff. Can you get this at walmart for cheaper. Yes it would probably look good. What is a flat twist out, with a head band???????? Sorry, I have never heard of all this, but I just want to know all the stuff. But do you guys have links and all.

Nessa, when my hair was that length, i found this was the easiest time to do a wrap. In fact, I didn't even always wrap my hair around my head, I just combed in around on one side and combed the other side back and slathered leave-in conditioner (creme) on it. It always turned out great because there wasn't much length to mess up the wrap.

Okay I just wanted to know if my hair was that long to do a wrap. What are the outcomes of the wrap, does it help you? Does it make your hair curl. I am confused I need some words to clarify. I wanna know what a twist out means.
 
Nessa, have you considered conditioner only washes and phony pony tails? You could air dry it (slick it back w/a pomade and cover w/a satin scarf) and then apply phonytail.

Nope, I don't know I am not sure yet, wear can I buy a phony tail to buy. I cuodl do that. But my hair needs to be permed, its too thick and it goes wild and all. What kind of pomade? And maybe I should start finding. I saw in ultra a caruso roller for 20 dollars and that tis a good price, I can afford it. YippeeBut I could just try to do something. I am just trying to find some ideas.
 
yeah go to pookeylou's pics and see her bantu knot twist out she has it step by step I think it would be pretty on you! Also, I would go with some braids in some different styles the sky is the limit but be careful not to pull so tight. If I were you I would learn how to braid and that way you can do your hair yourself keep up the good work! also you may want to check out growafrohairlong.com they have excellent hair tips.

You can find a phony tail at any asian beauty supply store. Are there any in your neighborhood? And they come in all different textures. You're sure to find one that will match your current hair texture. Try the yaki. It's like relaxed hair.
There are so many different pomades, I have to check the name of mine when I get home. I suggest applying an oil like Hot Six, and then the pomade over it to smooth. If you tie it down w/a satin scarf that should cut down on some of the "wildness" and leave your hair pretty smooth.
