Today,
In my car I was listening to 96.3, the Michael Baisden show. Now I don't know if he had just started his show or what, but as soon as the song went off, cuz I was jamming to some ol' skool, all I heard - loud and ringing in my ear was -
42% of Black Women have NEVER been ...yadda yadda
...of course I turned the station immediately and I'm sure you know the rest, as it has been ingrained into us since our senior year of university.
My question has always been twofold:
Who comes up with these statistics? and
Why?
I never understood what the point was.
I would still be doing the exact same thing I'm doing now if I didn't know that little tidbit of information. Is its purpose to make me scared, to give up and except being lonely? I'm I supposed to run out and find a man - any man, good or bad, so not to count myself apart of that number.
Is its purpose to say to those women that do have men, regardless of how they treat them, to be grateful that they are not apart of that number.
Please someone enlighten me.
And why is it that I never hear ... 37% of white women - or - 53% of Hispanic women - or - 29% of Asian women - -and yes I made those numbers up - - but is it because I simply do not listen to those markets for other women, and they are in fact bombarded with the same idiotic numbers that we are? And what about MEN - I don't ever hear anything about the number of black men who will never, have never married.
UGHH - It just annoys me to no end...I just had to vent.
