I am so mad right now!

Okay this is about to be a long rant so brace yourselves.....

So I was going to a christmas party last friday and decided to switch things up a bit and wear a half wig, since it was at the casino and I didn't want that smoke smell in my hair. Now I BC'd last month and hadn't bothered to straighten my hair at all but since i was going to wear this half wig I needed to so that my hair would lay closer to my head.

I blow dried my hair and ran a flatiron over it (very low heat on both) Wel when I flatironed it the ends kept curling back up on me, like my hair would instantly revert. I did the best that I could and my wig still looked good on so off to the party I went.

Now I had a date Saturday night and decided on the same hairstyle but I went to the salon to see if they could do a better job than I did. Because I thought I was doing something wrong. The "Stylist" blew my hair out, ran a hot comb through it, then tried to flat iron it, at a much higher setting I might add. It did the same thing!:wallbash: so I left dissapointed and 40 dollars poorer.

Now comes the part that really makes me angry, I went to wash my hair because the stylist put so much crap in my hair it felt horrible! Ya'll, The back of my hair is still straight! Even after I washed it twice, my curl is completely gone!:wallbash: I knew I shouldn't have gone to the salon, i just knew it! I am so mad at that stylist and myself. now I've got heat damage and am going to have to cut all of it off. it just makes me want to

Dang! i don't know what kind of pressing comb or how high the heat was but that must have been alot of heat damage if you say it doesn't revert back.

I don't think you should rush and do anything right now though. Wait and see what happens are about two months with deep conditioning.

I really do feel for you. Alot of folks say you have to give it some time. A few weeks of washing and deep conditioning before you decide to chop. It might need some time

My advice for all naturals who are straightening and want to retain their curl..Think about the real consequences before you heat straighten.

Seriously. Really take in the consequences allow them to settle in and plan your course of action if A, B, or C happens. Honestly, it is getting old the shock of nappies when they heat straighten and the curls don't come back. Prepare for this...it is possible y'all.

I decided that if a tiny bit of my hair was heat straightened I would continue rocking my natural styles. I don't wear my hear shrunken anyways. If a significant amount of my hair was heat straightened I would start wearing my hair in more stretched styles possibly straight styles.

I thought this out and was willing to take the consequences of my action if the naps didn't come back.

Please everyone do this...

Ok well one of two things have happened, let's hope it's the first. 1) Sometimes when stylist press or flat iron the hair they use alot of product and when naturals go to wash it the product is still on there and needs to be clarified off. 2) Or it could just be heat damage. Now what you should do is clarify and deep condition. If I were you I would deep condition with heat about twice a week for a couple of weeks, then follow up with a protein treatment. If it doesn't curl back up you can just style your hair to mask the straight parts or you could cut it. I think you should just mask it, with twist, twist outs, braid outs, etc. Good Luck with everything!!!

I definitely don't think you should cut if off right away. I would do some deep conditioning treatments with steam for awhile and see what happens. And stay away from heat!! (Especially the hot comb and flat iron) Some of my hair used to stay straight after I'd had it straightened even though my hair is naturally curly. Just give it some TLC and time.

I'm sorry that this happened to you Nikkablue. Heat damage is really scary. I hope your hair will return to normal. If it doesn't maybe you can wear twistouts or braidouts until you are able to trim off the straight part. Good luck.

I do agree with this. Using heat is like playing Russian roullette for me I prepare myself for the consequence just because you never know.

Why did you let the stylist use so much heat on your hair?:perplexed

I'd suggest doing a good clarifying wash then deep condition with a protein conditioner under a dryer. DC a few times a week for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference.

I agree as well. I am so scared of heat sometimes [but still iron] because of the fact that I have had times in the past where I would apply heat and then some parts would get straight. Usually after 2 or 3 washes it would convert back.

But...

Eventually, [like most of the ladies said] you should deep condition often.

Don't cut it~ just continue to DC weekly and no more heat for a long time. It happened to me a few months back and I felt exactly like you. My hair felt terrible, weak and life-less. However, over time, it gets back the curls and strength. Not sure if it goes back to it's original texture/feel 100% but pretty darn close - maybe 99%.

Thanks for the advice ladies, I'm off to find a clarifier and I will definately do a protien and DC this weekend. Hopefully my curls will come back. please keep your fingers crossed for me.

I wouldn't be so quick to cut it off. Since it's the back you can do some braid/twist outs to just blend it in.
