- my boss

Poor woman must be confused on who is going to show up. I had braids for a few weeks and took them out two weeks ago. I have rocked buns, other types of up do's, braided up do's, puffs, and now a braid out in those two weeks. I don't think my hairstyles have changed that much, but she has the same style for as long as I have known her so I can see how she just thinks this is all too much.

I am glad she is enjoying it.

 I got the same thing from my Scandinavian room mate. I hated my hair so much but she was fascinated by it. I'd come out the shower with a huge curly mess, shove it all into a neat sock bun, then come home and straighten it silky smooth. From the outside looking in it is pretty cool.

lol, our hair is very versatile but we tend to be very creative with styling as well. i have black and white folks that are perplexed when i go from textured to straight and they see how long it really is.

I never realized how much people where the same hairstyle until I took a new job and it was brought to my attention. I thought everyone changed their hairstyle every week or so :ohwell:

Now I realize they may get different cuts, Maybe, but they don't wear different styles.

I can see how it can be fascinating.

Absolutely. one of my coworkers tell me that I have a different hair style each time I show up for work... (Not true , btw) lol.

My old boss... 60 something white lady, would come into my office every time I changed my hair style. She was always fascinated. How I would rock my low puffs one week and me straight silky and "swanging" the next week.

Apparently her daughter has very coarse hair and used to have a fro when she was young. She insists her first husband had black somewhere in the blood line. The daughter has dreads now

With the option to achieve various styles, patterns and volume I can see how that would amaze some people. True to a lot of naturals, if they want their hair to look a certain way it could be as simple as drying it differently.

^^^^ End of day now. But, it was just a simple braidout. The way she said it in amazement cracked me up.

I showed up for a training class with a braid & curl and a circle of white people surrounded me.

I got the following comments:

"Your hair is so adorable!!!"
"How'd you do that?"
"You always have different kinds of curly types of things. WOW!"
"I can get my hair into an afro when it's really humid out" **I wanted to side eye her, but she was so desperate to relate that I just smiled and nodded.**

It's funny how fascinated people get by our hair.

My attending who is Cuban does the same thing. Every time I change it he's like "what did you do this time?" And all I did was come in with a bun instead of a puff lol

I had one of the Director's at work say 'Who is that person sitting at the end of the table' - because my hair is straight and no longer in braids - but even when I go from wearing my hair down to wearing my hair in a bun - people act like it's a big change!

One time I almost got kicked out of class because I straightened my hair and the teacher didn't recognize me and thought I didn't belong ... he screamed at me too...

I can so relate, I work in an office of all white people and they are crazy about my hair. They swear I change it everyday which is not true but they adore my many hairstyles.

Lol I stay keeping people guessing whether it's in my church or on my job, cause whoever sees me knows I rock wigs and my real hair so every week its something different and I promise I don't do it intentionally it's either because a style didn't work out or I got bored with it.

This used to happen at my old job.

My current boss is black and I'm pretty sure he has never noticed my hair.

Years ago, I was talking with the other ladies in the office about the actress Tonya Lee Williams, Olivia from The Young and the Restless. The producers of the show were upset when she left one day with her long weave and showed up next day with her very own short hair. The 50+ white woman in the office said to me, "Well, you change your hair all the time," and I really don't think she was trying to be racist or anything. It's just that she wore the same short, pixie haircut all 10 plus years we worked together. :yep:
